The Ruling on Slaughter for Other Than Allah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on one who slaughters in one of the shrines of the awliya (close friends of Allah), meaning a place where there is the grave of a Muslim who has died? And did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) order any of his Companions to do so?

Answer:
If the one who slaughtered did so for the owner of the grave, then this is major shirk (associating partners with Allah), for slaughter is worship, and worship is a right belonging exclusively to Allah. Whoever diverts something of what is due to Allah to another is a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah) and a disbeliever. Allah the Exalted said:
Say, "Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds.قُلْ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ۝
[Al-An'am 6:162]
He has no partner, and thus I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims [Al-An'am: 162-163].
And if the slaughter is for Allah at this grave, it is not permissible; because it is a bid'ah (religious innovation) and one of the means to shirk (associating partners with Allah), and the means have the ruling of the ends in terms of prohibition. And success is from Allah.
