The obligation to teach an elderly person who is ignorant of the manner of prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Do sons and daughters receive reward if they teach their elderly father how to pray?

Answer:
It is obligatory for them to teach him if he is ignorant, but with gentleness, softness, and kind words, not with harshness, until he accepts it from them. This is the case with other elderly people as well; the teacher should seek gentleness, because it is closer to being accepted, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who is deprived of gentleness is deprived of good.من يحرم الرفق يحرم الخير كله
Sunan Abi Dawud 4809Sahih (Al-Albani)
So a son should be very gentle with his father, his older brother, his grandfather, and his mother, so that perhaps they will accept it from him. This is the case with others as well, because harshness may lead to deprivation and a lack of benefit.
