The Ruling on Placing a Picture in the House

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We know that the ruling on placing pictures in the house is forbidden, so is it permissible to place them in the bathroom, whether they are three-dimensional or not?

Answer:
It is obligatory to obliterate pictures and destroy them, and it is not permissible to place them in the house or in the bathroom; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) :
Spare no portrait unwiped out, and leave not a high grave unlevelled.لا تدع صورة إلا طمستها ولا قبرًا مشرفًا إلا سويته
Riyad as-Salihin 1687
.
But if a person is compelled to keep a picture for reasons that necessitate it, let him keep it in a concealed place, such as a box or the like, and he has no right to display it or hang it up, whether that is in the bathroom or elsewhere. And success is from Allah.
