If this cooking is permissible for you, eat it; otherwise, leave it

The Shaykh : It is said: If this cooking is permissible for you, eat it; otherwise, leave it. However, there is no harm in saying to one's family, "You have added too much salt today," or "You have added too much heat," or "The food is hot," or something similar. This is not a criticism of the food, but rather a reminder to the one who prepared it to pay attention to the food and prepare it as it should be. As for praising the food and complimenting it, consider the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: They said: We have nothing but vinegar. Vinegar is a liquid in which dates are placed until it becomes sweet. So the vinegar was brought to him, and he began to eat with it, meaning he dipped his bread in it and ate it, saying: Mishkat al-Masabih 4183 This is praise of the food, because although vinegar is a drink that is consumed, a drink is called food. Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Baqarah 2:249] It is called food because it has a taste that is eaten. This is also part of the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that when he liked the food, he praised it. Similarly, if you praised the bread and said, "What good bread this is, so-and-so's bread," or something similar, this is also from the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). And success is from Allah.
