The Shaykh : As for the second chapter, it concerns the one who eats and does not become full. There are reasons for the one who eats and does not become full, among which is: not invoking the name of Allah over the food. If a person does not invoke the name of Allah over the food, Shaytan eats with him and the blessing is removed from his food. Another reason is: eating from the top of the plate, for this is also among the things that remove the blessing from the plate, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) forbade a person from eating from the top of the plate, for there is blessing in it. Rather, one should eat from the sides. Another reason is: separating over the food, for this is also among the causes of removing the blessing, because separating necessitates that each person has a specific vessel for himself, so the food becomes separated and its blessing is removed. Therefore, if you were to give each person food, meaning in one plate or in one vessel, the food would become separated. But if you put it all in one vessel and they gather over it, there would be blessing in the little. This indicates that it is recommended for the group to have their food in one vessel, meaning one plate is enough for ten or five, according to the number of people in the house, and their food should be one. For this is among the causes of the descent of blessing, and separating is among the causes of removing the blessing. And Allah is the One who grants success.
