The discussion of the story of Hajar and the water of Zamzam. And the story of Musa (peace be upon him).

The Shaykh : Zamzam is the spring of water around the Ka'bah. The reason for it is that Ibrahim al-Khalil (peace and blessings be upon him) left Hajar, the mother of Isma'il, and her son Isma'il in Makkah, where there was no one, no inhabitants, no Ka'bah, and no one at all, nor any crops; it was a valley without crops. He left with them a container of dates and a waterskin of water, and then he departed, because Allah commanded him to leave them there. When he departed, Hajar followed him and said to him, meaning, how can you go and leave us? Did Allah command you to do so? He said: Yes. She said: If Allah commanded you to do so, then He will not let us be lost. Look at the faith, for He will not let us be lost. This indicates the perfection of Hajar's (may Allah be pleased with her) faith. Her story is similar to the story of the mother of Musa, the mother of Musa ibn 'Imran. Pharaoh was given authority over the Children of Israel, killing their sons and keeping their women to humiliate them. It was said that the astrologers told him that a man would appear from the Children of Israel whose hand would bring about your destruction. So he began killing their sons, and the mother of Musa feared for him. Allah inspired her with divine inspiration, not prophetic revelation, that if she feared for him, she should put him in a chest, meaning a wooden box, and cast it into the sea. This is something severe for the soul, to place one's child in a chest and cast it into the sea. But she was a believer, trusting in the promise of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), so she did it. She cast him into the sea in the chest, and it fell into the hands of the family of Pharaoh, and they took him. The wife of Pharaoh said: [Al-Qasas 28:9] The heart of the mother of Musa became empty, meaning it was as if nothing was behind it; her heart had fled for her son despite her faith in Allah. But Allah (Mighty and Majestic), by His power, inspired, meaning He made this boy refuse to suckle from any woman presented to him. Then the sister of Musa, whom her mother had sent to search and see what had happened to him, saw the people looking for a wet nurse for this boy. She said: Shall I direct you to a household that will take him in for you and be sincere to him? Allah returned him to his mother before he suckled from any woman. Allah is the Greatest, the power of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), meaning the boy did not suckle from anyone other than his mother, even though she had cast him into the sea. But Allah returned him to her. Hajar (may Allah be pleased with her), when Ibrahim told her that Allah had commanded him to do this, said: "Then He will not let me be lost". Then she remained with her child in this place where there was no one from the children of Adam. She made them eat from the dates and drink from the water, and she would produce milk for the boy and he would suckle, until the dates and water ran out. The mother became hungry, and it is known that when a mother is hungry, she has no milk. The child began to cry and wail. She saw, by what Allah inspired her, which mountain was closest to her to climb, hoping she might hear a sound or see something. She found the closest place to her was al-Safa. You are looking at al-Safa now; the closest mountain to the Ka'bah is al-Safa. She climbed it, feeling around, listening, but found no one. She descended and said, I will go to the other side, and the closest mountain to her on the other side is al-Marwah. She climbed al-Marwah, listening, wanting to find someone, but no one came to her. Between al-Safa and al-Marwah was a Shu'ayb, a valley bed for a stream. It is known that a Shu'ayb is lower than the ground. So when she descended into the Shu'ayb, she ran a great run, running in order to hear the boy and for him to turn to her and see her. When she did this seven times, seven times, completing seven times, she heard something. She said: "Help me, if you have help". Meaning she heard a sound, and it was Jibril, commanded by his Lord (Mighty and Majestic) to descend to the earth and strike with his heel or his wing at the place of Zamzam. He struck once, and this water gushed forth, the water of Zamzam. She began to gather it, piling stones around it, fearing it would flow away on the ground and decrease, which was her assumption. When she surrounded the water and drank, she found that the water sufficed for food and drink, and it was water. She began to drink from this water and nurse the boy, and Allah (Mighty and Majestic) relieved her. There were people around her, but they were far from her, from the Jurhum, a tribe of Arabs who were around her. They saw birds descending to this place, the place of Zamzam where the water is, and the birds can be seen from afar. They said, we have not heard of water here until birds descend to it. But they said, birds cannot descend except to water. So they followed these birds until they reached the place, and they found the place was a spring gushing forth. They descended around the woman, and she was comforted by them. Isma'il grew up and married one of them. He married one of them. After a period, Ibrahim (peace and blessings be upon him) came and entered upon his family, the family of Isma'il and Hajar. He asked the wife of Isma'il, what are you? What is your condition? She complained about the condition and grumbled. He said to her, when your husband comes, tell him, I think he will uproot the threshold of his door or remove the threshold of his door. She said: Okay. Then Isma'il came and she told him what happened. He said: Did anyone come to you? It seemed Isma'il was surprised, did anyone come? She said: Yes, an old man came, his description was such and such, and he said, convey my greetings to him and tell him to change this word, to change the threshold of his door. What did Ibrahim want? He wanted to divorce her, to divorce the woman, because the woman was a complainer; she complained about her husband, and that they had nothing but misery. He said: This is my father, and you are the threshold, so go back to your people. Then he married another woman. Then Ibrahim came again after being absent for a period, and entered the house of his son Isma'il and found the wife. He asked her about their condition, and she praised their condition. She said: We are well, and she praised the condition. He said to her: "Convey my greetings to your husband and tell him to hold onto the threshold of his door". When Isma'il came from hunting, or I do not know when he came, it seemed he asked, what is it, did anyone come? She said: Yes, an old man came, his description was such and such, and he conveys your greetings and says, hold onto the threshold of your door. He said: That is my father, and you are the threshold of the door, and he commanded me to hold onto you. So the result is that Zamzam is blessed water, food, taste, and healing for sickness. And the water of Zamzam is for what it is drunk for. If you drink it for thirst, you are quenched. If you drink it for hunger, you are sated. Until some scholars took from the generality of this hadith that if a person is sick and drinks it for healing, he is healed. And if he is one who forgets a lot and drinks it for memorization, he becomes a memorizer. And if he drinks it for any purpose, for any goal, it benefits him. In any case, the water is blessed water.
