The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
He (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Chapter on the recommendation of asking the family of the sick person about his condition. It was narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) that Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) came out from the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) during the illness in which he passed away, so the people said: O Abu al-Hasan, how did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) become? He said: He became, by the praise of Allah, free of illness. Al-Bukhari narrated it."

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
When the author al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in his book *Riyad al-Salihin* many of the etiquettes of visiting the sick, he mentioned the clarification of asking the family of the sick person about his condition, and that this is among the matters that the Sunnah brought, where he mentioned from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) that Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) came out from the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) during the illness in which he died. Ali ibn Abi Talib was the son-in-law of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and his cousin, and he was the best of the people of the household, so he was the fourth caliph in this Ummah. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left him in charge of his family during the expedition of Tabuk and saw that he was affected by that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said to him:
Aren't you satisfied with being unto me what Aaron was unto Moses? أما ترضى أن تكون مني بمنزلة هارون من موسى
Sahih Muslim 2404e
Because Musa left Harun in charge of his family, he said:
Take my place among my people, do right [by them], and do not follow the way of the corrupters." اخلفني في قومي وأصلح ولا تتبع سبيل المفسدين
[Al-A'raf 7:142]
The Prophet (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said:
Are you not pleased that you should be to me as Aaron was to Moses, except that there is no prophet after me? أما ترضى أن تكون مني بمنزلة هارون من موسى إلا أنه لا نبي بعدي
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 37:470
He came out from the presence of the Messenger (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) during the illness in which he died. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he was ill, used to be just among his nine wives, except for Sawdah bint Zam'ah (may Allah be pleased with her), for she gave her day to A'ishah. So in his illness, he used to be just among his wives. When his illness became severe, he used to say:
Where will I be tomorrow? Where will I be tomorrow? أين أنا غدًا؟ أين أنا غدًا؟
Sahih al-Bukhari 4450
He wanted A'ishah's day, so they (may Allah be pleased with them) permitted him to be ill in A'ishah's house. So he was with A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) until he passed away. Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had become? He said: "He became, by the praise of Allah, free of illness" In this is evidence that if it is not possible to reach the sick person, then one asks about him from those who visit him, whether relatives or others, asking about his condition so that a person may be reassured. In our time, praise be to Allah, there has been connection with people other than family and relatives, which is the telephone connection. So if a person is not able to go to the sick person himself, this telephone, praise be to Allah, Allah brought it as a good messenger for the person, entering the houses without permission. For this reason, we say if you are not able to visit the sick person yourself, then you call him on the telephone and ask about his condition, and reward is written for you for that, if Allah wills. And Allah grants success.
