Is there any reward for her if she gives charity on her behalf? He said: (Yes).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then he cited as evidence the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a man said: "O Messenger of Allah, my mother died suddenly" meaning: she died unexpectedly "and if she had been able to speak, she would have given charity. Shall I give charity on her behalf?" He said:
Yes نعم
This indicates the permissibility of giving charity on behalf of the deceased. So when you intend to give charity, you should intend that it is for your mother, for your father, for your brother, for your sister, or for any deceased Muslim person on whose behalf you give charity, for that will benefit him. As for making du'a for the deceased, in the hadith of Abu Hurayrah:
When a person dies, his deeds are cut off إذا مات الإنسان انقطع عمله
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1376Sahih (Darussalam)
When a person dies, his deeds are cut off except for three: Continuing charity إذا مات الإنسان انقطع عمله إلا من ثلاث صدقة جارية
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1376Sahih (Darussalam)
meaning he himself gives an example, such as endowing a property or anything, saying to the poor: "This is ongoing charity"
or knowledge (by which people) benefit أو علم ينتفع به
Sahih Muslim 1631
meaning: after him, people learn the knowledge and benefit from his knowledge
or a pious child, who prays for him أو ولد صالح يدعو له
Sahih Muslim 1631
or a righteous child who prays for him, because a child who is not righteous does not pray for his parents or treat them with kindness, but the righteous child is the one who prays for his parents after their death. For this reason, it is emphasized for us to strive with utmost effort for the righteousness of our children, because the righteousness of our children is righteousness for them and good for us, as they will pray for us after our death. The best of these three is knowledge, the knowledge that benefits people. I give you an example, indeed many examples: Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) was among the poorest of the Companions in the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him); he would sometimes fall to the ground from the intensity of hunger. And yet, most Muslims today do not read anything but his narrations; the most common narrations in the books are those of Abu Hurayrah. He is the one who transmitted these hadiths to us. Bring the richest person who gave charity in the time of Abu Hurayrah; did his charities remain until now? The answer is: No. Imam Ahmad, Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, teaches us while he is in his grave, because his books are before us. The greatest merchant, the greatest caliph in the time of Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him), did their good reach us today? Absolutely not. So knowledge is the most beneficial of the three, more beneficial than ongoing charity, how much ongoing charity has been disabled, destroyed, and gone. And more beneficial than the righteous child; the righteous child dies, meaning after twenty years, thirty years, forty years, then he dies. But the beneficial knowledge that Muslims benefit from, this remains, it remains until Allah wills. For example now, how long has Imam Ahmad been dead? How long has Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah been dead? And people are still benefiting from his knowledge. So strive, my brother, for knowledge. Nothing is comparable to knowledge, as Imam Ahmad said for the one whose intention is sincere. So strive for Islamic knowledge and for the supporting sciences of Islamic knowledge and its aids, such as grammar and the like, which are aids to Islamic knowledge, so that Allah may benefit you and benefit through you. And success is from Allah.
