The reader: And may prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted, in the context of the hadiths in the chapter on the etiquettes of traveling, stopping, lodging, and sleeping while traveling, and the recommendation of gentleness with riding animals, and considering their benefit, and commanding one who falls short in their rights to fulfill those rights, and the permissibility of riding together on a mount if it can bear it: "Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 2571Sahih (Al-Albani) Abu Dawud narrated it with a good chain.
And Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) said:Mishkat al-Masabih 3914 Abu Dawud narrated it with a good chain.
And Sahl ibn Amr—or it is said Sahl ibn al-Rabi' ibn Amr—the Ansari, known as Ibn al-Hanazaliyyah, who was from the people of the Pledge of Acceptance (may Allah be pleased with him), said:Mishkat al-Masabih 3370 Abu Dawud narrated it with an authentic chain.
And Abu Ja'far, Abdullah ibn Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with them both), said:Riyad as-Salihin 967 meaning: a palm grove wall. Muslim narrated it in this abbreviated form.
Al-Barqani added to it:Riyad as-Salihin 967 Abu Dawud narrated it like the narration of al-Barqani.
And Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 2551Sahih (Al-Albani) Abu Dawud narrated it with a chain meeting the conditions of Muslim.
And his saying: "We do not recite the tasbih" means: we do not perform the voluntary prayer. Its meaning is: despite our eagerness for prayer, we do not prioritize it over unloading the camels and resting the mounts.
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
These are hadiths regarding the etiquettes of travel, which al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) included in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*:
Among them is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) guided his Ummah to travel at night, and he informed them that the earth is folded: meaning it is folded for the traveler if he travels at night, meaning that he covers in the night journey what he does not cover in the day. This is because night is a cool time, so it is more energetic for the mounts and faster in their movement. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) expressed this by saying:.
Among the etiquettes is also that it is recommended for the group not to scatter when they stop at a place: meaning your scattering, Mishkat al-Masabih 3914, because that is stronger for them and safer. If an enemy were to overpower them on that night and they were together, they would be able to defend themselves. But if they scattered, they would be divided and fail.
Among them is also that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) commanded gentleness with animals, and that it is obligatory for a person to treat them well, so he does not burden them with what they cannot bear, nor does he fall short in providing them with food and drink.
Among them is also, from the etiquettes, that a person rides the mount alone, and he may have another ride behind him, but on the condition that the mount is capable of bearing the extra rider. If it is not capable due to weakness or the like, then it is not permissible for him to burden it with what it cannot bear, because these animals get tired just as a human gets tired. They are composed of what humans are composed of: flesh, bone, and blood. So if a human gets tired when burdened with what he cannot bear, or when carrying work that tires him, so it is with these animals. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to fear Allah the Exalted regarding them, and not to fall short in their rights.

Keep to travelling by night, for the earth is traversed (more easily) by night.
And Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
when the people encamped they scattered in the glens and wadis , but when God’s Messenger said, “Your scattering in these glens and wadis is only of the devil," they afterwards kept close together when they encamped
And Sahl ibn Amr—or it is said Sahl ibn al-Rabi' ibn Amr—the Ansari, known as Ibn al-Hanazaliyyah, who was from the people of the Pledge of Acceptance (may Allah be pleased with him), said:
God’s Messenger coming upon an emaciated camel and saying, “Fear God regarding these dumb animals. Ride them when they are in good condition and let them free when they are in good condition.”
And Abu Ja'far, Abdullah ibn Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with them both), said:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) made me ride behind him one day and confided something to me which I shall never disclose to anyone. ('Abdullah added:) He ((ﷺ) preferred to screen himself from others when responding to the call of nature, either behind a wall or the trunk of a date-palm.
Al-Barqani added to it:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) entered an orchid belonging to an Ansari and saw there a camel. When it saw him, it began to groan and its eyes shed tears. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) approached it and patted it on the hump and the base of its head until it quieted down. Then he (ﷺ) asked, "Who is the owner of this camel? To whom does it belong?" An Ansari youth stepped forward and said: "It is mine O Messenger of Allah!" He said, "Do you not fear Allah in respect of this beast which Allah has placed in your possession? This camel is complaining to me that you starve it and put it to toil."
And Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
When we alighted at a station (for stay), we did not pray until we united the saddles of the camels.
And his saying: "We do not recite the tasbih" means: we do not perform the voluntary prayer. Its meaning is: despite our eagerness for prayer, we do not prioritize it over unloading the camels and resting the mounts.

Among the etiquettes is also that it is recommended for the group not to scatter when they stop at a place:
The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to, when they would stop at a place, disperse into the valleys and ravines. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That is only from Shaytan.
Among them is also that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) commanded gentleness with animals, and that it is obligatory for a person to treat them well, so he does not burden them with what they cannot bear, nor does he fall short in providing them with food and drink.
