Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
He said -may Allah have mercy on him-: "Chapter on the virtue of the day of Friday, its obligation, taking a bath for it, applying perfume, hastening to it, making du'a' on the day of Friday, and sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 857b Narrated by Muslim.
And from him (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:Riyad as-Salihin 1149 Narrated by Muslim.
And from him (may Allah be pleased with him), and from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), that they heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say from the wooden pulpit:Sahih Muslim 865 Narrated by Muslim.
And from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Muwatta Malik 5:5 Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 341Sahih (Al-Albani) Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim".
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
These hadiths explain what is related to the Friday prayer. Al-Nawawi -may Allah have mercy on him- mentioned them in *Riyad al-Salihin*: Among them is that if a person performs wudu' in his home and then remains quiet until the imam finishes the khutbah, his sins between the two Fridays will be forgiven,Sahih Muslim 857b: And "idle talk" (laghw) means that he is deprived of the virtue of the day of Friday, and the Friday prayer in his case, in terms of reward, is like the Zuhr prayer, not like the Friday prayer. "Pebbles" (hishaa') refers to the fact that the mosque of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was paved with pebbles, meaning small stones like flint and its kind, because there were no carpets or sand, but it was paved with these pebbles like the pebbles used for stoning the pillars. So if he touches them, meaning he plays with them by smoothing them or the like, he has engaged in idle talk. The reason for this is that if he does this, he is occupied from listening to the khutbah, and listening to the khutbah is obligatory. For this reason, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: : Meaning like a donkey carrying books, from which it does not benefit, Bulugh al-Maram 2:374: He is deprived of the reward of the Friday prayer. And in this hadith narrated by Muslim, it says: Sunan Abi Dawud 354Hasan (Al-Albani), but in the hadith of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri: Riyad as-Salihin 1152: And taking the hadith of Abu Sa'id is preferable from several aspects:
The first aspect: The hadith of Abu Sa'id contains an addition, which is the obligation, the obligation of taking a bath, whereas the hadith of Abu Hurayrah mentions performing wudu'. And taking the addition is obligatory.
Second: Regarding the Friday bath, the hadith of Abu Sa'id was narrated by al-Bukhari, Muslim, Ahmad, al-Nasa'i, al-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, and Ibn Majah; the seven agreed upon it. The hadith of Abu Hurayrah was narrated exclusively by Muslim. It is known that what the seven agreed upon is preferable to what Muslim narrated exclusively.
And among them is that in the hadith of Abu Sa'id, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) attached the obligation to a description that implies legal accountability, which is his saying:: And "one who has reached puberty" (mukhtalim) is the adult, and adulthood is the criterion for legal accountability. For this reason, we say: The stronger opinion among the opinions of the scholars in this issue is: "That the Friday bath is obligatory for every person, in winter and summer, whether he has dirt on him or not", because the speech of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in that matter is clear, and because this is what appears from the understanding of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them): "Indeed, the Commander of the Faithful, 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), entered while 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, the Commander of the Faithful, was delivering the khutbah, so he rebuked him, saying: By Allah, O Commander of the Faithful, I did nothing more than perform wudu' and then come. He said: And wudu' as well? And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Sunan Abi Dawud 340Sahih (Al-Albani)", meaning how can you limit yourself to wudu'?! So he rebuked him in the presence of the Companions. So the conclusion is that the stronger opinion is that the Friday bath is obligatory.
But if he did not take a bath, is the Friday prayer invalid? No, it is not invalid, because this is not a bath for ritual impurity (hadath) such that we would say he prayed without purity, but it is an obligatory bath not for ritual impurity. For this reason, it does not suffice for the bath of janabah. If a person takes a bath for Friday and he has the bath of janabah upon him and does not intend the bath of janabah, it does not suffice for him, because the Friday bath is not for ritual impurity, unlike the bath of janabah. And success is from Allah.

The five daily (prescribed) Salat, and Friday (prayer) to the next Friday (prayer), and the fasting of Ramadan to the next Ramadan, is expiation of the sins committed in between them, so long as major sins are avoided.
الصلوات الخمس، والجمعة إلى الجمعة، ورمضان إلى رمضان، مكفراتٌ ما بينهن إذا اجتنبت الكبائرAnd from him (may Allah be pleased with him), and from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), that they heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say from the wooden pulpit:
People must cease to neglect the Friday prayer or Allah will seal their hearts and then they will be among the negligent.
لينتهين أقوام عن ودعهم الجُمُعات، أو ليختمن الله على قلوبهم ، ثم ليكونُنَّ من الغافلينAnd from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

إذا جاء أحدكم الجمعة فليغتسلAnd from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Taking bath on Friday is necessary for every adult.
