And O my people, give full measure and weight in justice and do not deprive the people of their due

And He said:
(1) Woe to those who give less [than due], (2) Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full. (3) But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss. The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*: "Chapter on the virtue of leniency in buying and selling" Buying and selling are two necessities without which the life of the children of Adam generally cannot be sustained. This is because a person may need something from another; how would he obtain it if he begged for it and asked for it to be given to him, thereby humiliating himself? If he borrowed it, he would remain in anxiety, and if he took it by force, he would be committing injustice. So, it was part of the wisdom of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) that He legislated buying and selling. For example, I may need dirhams, so I sell what I have, and you may need a specific item I have, so you buy it with dirhams. Thus, selling is a necessity for the needs of the children of Adam. However, some people sell with justice, some sell with injustice, and some sell with kindness. People are divided into three categories: one who sells with justice, neither oppressing nor being oppressed, as Allah the Exalted said regarding those who deal in riba:
But if you repent, you may have your principal - [thus] you do no wrong, nor are you wronged.
[Al-Baqarah 2:279]
Another category sells with injustice and oppression, such as the deceiver and the liar, and the like of that. And a third category sells with generosity and kindness, being lenient in selling and buying. If he sells, he does not demand his full right but reduces the price and grants a delay in payment. If he buys, he does not mind if the price is increased, and he hastens to pay, thus being a doer of good. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) cited evidence for the virtue of leniency in buying and selling from verses, including the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And whatever you do of good - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it." وما تفعلوا من خير فإن الله به عليم
[Al-Baqarah 2:215]
The word "good" in "any good" is an indefinite noun in the context of a condition, so it encompasses all good from any source. It is also confirmed in its generality by the word "whoever"
of good من خير
meaning: whatever good you do, Allah is aware of it. This means it is not hidden from Him and does not escape Him (Mighty and Majestic), and He will reward you for it better than what you did, for Allah the Exalted rewards a good deed with ten times its like, up to seven hundred times, up to many times over. The intended meaning of this noble verse is to encourage the doing of good and to make the doer know that nothing of his action will be lost, for Allah is aware of it and will reward him (Mighty and Majestic) with the best reward. Among the good is leniency in buying and selling. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) invoked blessings for those who are lenient in buying and selling, saying:
May Allah have mercy on a man who is lenient when he sells, lenient when he buys, lenient when he pays, and lenient when he collects.
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 5:520
The more lenient a person is in his selling, buying, hiring, being hired, pledging, taking a pledge, and so on, the better it is. Allah the Exalted said about Shu'ayb that he said to his people:
O my people, give full measure and weight in justice and do not deprive the people of their due
[Hud 11:85]
"Give full measure" means: what you sell by measure, and "full weight" means: what you sell by weight, give it in full and do not diminish anything from it. This is evidence that fulfilling contracts is something brought by the previous and subsequent heavenly laws. And He the Exalted said:
(1) Woe to those who give less [than due], (2) Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full.
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:1-2]
"Woe" is a word of warning by which Allah (Mighty and Majestic) threatens the cheaters whose description is this:
when they take a measure from people, take in full.
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:2]
meaning: if the right is theirs and they measure, they take their full right
But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss.
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:3]
meaning: if the right is against them and they measure for others or weigh for others, they cause loss, meaning they shortchange in measure and weight.
