Chapter: The saying of Allah the Exalted: "Do those not think that they will be resurrected for a great Day?"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Chapter: The saying of Allah the Exalted:
(4) Do they not think that they will be resurrected (5) For a tremendous Day - (6) The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds? ألا يظن أولئك أنهم مبعوثون ليوم عظيم يوم يقوم الناس لرب العلمين
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:4-6]
. And Ibn Abbas said:
and cut off from them are the ties [of relationship], وتقطعت بهم الأسباب
[Al-Baqarah 2:166]
: He said: "The connections in this world".

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Chapter: The saying of Allah the Exalted:
(4) Do they not think that they will be resurrected (5) For a tremendous Day - (6) The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds? ألا يظن أولئك أنهم مبعوثون ليوم عظيم . يوم يقوم الناس لرب العلمين
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:4-6]
. This verse, or rather these two verses, are in the context of the recompense of those who cheat in measure, who, when they buy from people, take the full amount. There is nothing wrong with that; when they buy from people and take the full amount, there is nothing wrong with it, because that is their right. But when they sell to them or weigh for them, they give less, meaning when they measure for them or weigh for them, they shortchange them. So they demand their full rights but deprive people of their rights, and this is the height of injustice. If they did not demand this or that, it would be easier. If they were just in both, it would be right. But because they want their full right and shortchange others, these are the cheaters. Allah the Exalted said:
Do those not think ألا يظن أولئك
. Know that this is by way of example, meaning the mention of measuring and weighing is by way of example. Otherwise, everyone who deprives another of his right while demanding his own right in full is among the cheaters, even in matters of knowledge. If a person wants to compare two opinions and supports his own opinion by bringing many arguments and preferences, but he disparages the opinion of others and does not present it as he presents his own, he is among the cheaters. Likewise, the employee who shortchanges the job of its due, by being late in arriving, or leaving early, or not giving the work its due while engaged in it, whereas if he were shortchanged by even one dirham of his salary, he would demand it. This person is also among whom?
The reciter: Among the cheaters.

The Shaykh : Among the cheaters. The criterion is that the cheater wants his right in full and deprives others of their right. Allah Mighty and Majestic says:
Do those not think ألا يظن أولئك
. "Think" means "be certain," because mere suspicion is not sufficient in the matter of faith; rather, certainty is required. So whenever you encounter the word "think" in a matter where certainty is required, the intended meaning of "think" is certainty. For example, His saying:
Who are certain that they will meet their Lord الذين يظنون أنهم ملاقوا ربهم
[Al-Baqarah 2:46]
And the criminals will see the Fire and will be certain that they are to fall therein. And they will not find from it a way elsewhere. ورأى المجرمون النار فظنوا أنهم مواقعوها ولا يجدوا عنها مصرفا
[Al-Kahf 18:53]
. So "think" here means what?
The reciter: Certainty.

The Shaykh : Certainty. This is also "Do those not think," those... meaning "Do those not be certain." This is a particle of exhortation meaning rebuke; it is a particle of exhortation, but here it came with the meaning of rebuke. And His saying: "That they will be resurrected for a great Day," that is the Day, the Day of Resurrection. And "resurrected" is from "ba'th," which means bringing out and sending, and it has several meanings. And His saying: "The Day when people will stand before the Lord of the worlds," this is the great Day, the Day of Resurrection, the Day when all people will stand, their believers and disbelievers, their young and old, their righteous and wicked, before the Lord of the worlds, who created them and caused them to die, then brought them back to life. This contains a warning against cheating, for the cheater will receive his recompense in this great Day. And His saying: "And the ties between them will be severed," he said: "The connections in this world." This is in the context of His saying:
[And they should consider that] when those who have been followed disassociate themselves from those who followed [them], and they [all] see the punishment, and cut off from them are the ties [of relationship], إذ تبرء الذين اتُبِعوا من الذين اتَبَعوا و رأوو العذاب وتقطعت بهم الأسباب
[Al-Baqarah 2:166]
. Those who were followed are the leaders and the great ones, whom their followers follow in disobedience to Allah. On the Day of Resurrection, they will disavow them. Among them are the worshipped along with the worshippers, who will disavow them on the Day of Resurrection. Allah the Exalted said:
and they [all] see the punishment, and cut off from them are the ties [of relationship], ورأوا العذاب وتقطعت بهم الأسباب
[Al-Baqarah 2:166]
. This is on the Day of Resurrection; this will happen on the Day of Resurrection. Ibn Abbas said: "The connections in this world." In a narration from him, it is "affection," meaning the love between them in this world. The connections between them in this world will be severed on that Day, and they will not benefit from them, nor will they benefit from the connection in the Hereafter, except the righteous, as Allah the Exalted said:
Close friends, that Day, will be enemies to each other, except for the righteous الأخلاء يومئذٍ بعضهم لبعض عدو إلا المتقين
[Az-Zukhruf 43:67]
