Discussion of the attribute of modesty for Allah the Exalted.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And in this hadith is the affirmation of modesty for Allah Mighty and Majestic, but it is not like the modesty of the created beings; rather, it is a modesty of perfection befitting Allah Mighty and Majestic. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed, Allah, is Hayy, Generous إن الله حيي كريم
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3556Da’if (Darussalam)
And Allah the Exalted said:
But Allah is not shy of the truth إن الله لا يستحيي من الحق
[Al-Ahzab 33:53]
And Allah Mighty and Majestic is described with this attribute, but not in a way that resembles the created beings, because Allah the Exalted says in the Qur'an:
There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing. ليس كمثله شيء وهو السميع البصير
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
So whenever an attribute of Allah passes you that is similar in wording to an attribute of the created beings, know that they are not equal in meaning, because there is nothing like Allah. So if it passes you, for example, that Allah rose above the Throne, do not think that His rising above the Throne is like your rising on the back of a camel, about which Allah said:
so that you may ride on their backs لتستوا على ظهوره
And if Allah the Exalted says:
Rather, both His hands are extended بل يداه مبسوطتان
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]
do not think that the hands of Allah are like your hands, no, because there is nothing like Allah. All of His attributes are unique to Him. Just as we affirm His oneness in His essence and we affirm His oneness in worship, so we affirm His oneness in His attributes. There is nothing like Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing. And may Allah grant success.
