The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
He said, may Allah have mercy on him: "Chapter on matters of supplication. It was narrated from Usamah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) that he said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2035Hasan (Darussalam) Al-Tirmidhi narrated it and said: It is a good, authentic hadith. And it was narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Muslim narrated it. And it was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Abi Dawud 875Sahih (Al-Albani) Muslim narrated it".
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
These are scattered matters from various types of supplication. Among them is the hadith of Usamah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Bulugh al-Maram 1383 If a person does you a favor, whether with money, assistance, knowledge, status—meaning he turns toward you or otherwise—then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to reciprocate the one who did the favor. He said: Sunan Abi Dawud 1672Sahih (Al-Albani) Reciprocation depends on the situation of people. For some, reciprocation is giving them what they gave you or more. For others, reciprocation is making supplication for them, and they are not pleased if you reciprocate with money. For example, a great man who has much wealth and status and honor among his people, if he gives you a gift and you give him the same amount, he sees that as a shortcoming in his right. But for such a person, make supplication to Allah for him. Sunan Abi Dawud 1672Sahih (Al-Albani) And among that is saying to him, "May Allah reward you with good," when he gives you something or benefits you in some way. Say, "May Allah reward you with good," and you have reached the peak of praise. This is because if Allah rewards him with good, that will be happiness for him in this world and the Hereafter. As for the second hadith, the hadith of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It may coincide with an hour of response, and then it is answered. This often happens in anger. When a person gets angry, he may invoke against himself or against his son. For example, he might say, "May Allah kill you," "May Allah destroy you," "May Allah disgrace you," and the like. Some of them even invoke a curse upon their son, may Allah keep us safe from that. Likewise, some people invoke against their family, against their wife, against their sister, and perhaps even against their mother, may Allah protect us from that, in anger. Likewise, they invoke against their wealth. When his car malfunctions, he says, "May Allah not bless you in this car," or this house, the furniture, and the like. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade invoking against all of that because it may coincide with an hour of response. If it coincides with an hour of response, it is answered. If you say to your son, "Come, may Allah destroy you, why did you go to such and such," it may coincide with an hour of response. "May Allah not make you successful," "May Allah not profit you," "May Allah not reform you." All of this is forbidden and not permissible, because it may coincide with an hour of response. Likewise, wealth that goes against you, like a car or work in the house or otherwise, do not invoke against it. Do not say, "May Allah not bless this thing." Say, "O Allah, make the matter easy," "O Allah, facilitate it," so that facilitation and ease are achieved. As for the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, it contains the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): When a person is supplicating to Allah the Exalted, he is close to Allah, and Allah the Exalted is close to him, as He, Exalted and Majestic is He, said: [Al-Baqarah 2:186] The closest a person is to his Lord is when he is prostrating. This is because in prostration there is the perfection of submission to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, because you place your most noble and highest limbs in the lowest place, at the footstool, in exaltation of the Lord, Mighty and Majestic. So Allah the Exalted draws near to you in this state, and you draw near to your Lord. So increase in supplication. Increase in supplication in prostration, whether you are prostrating in an obligatory prayer or a voluntary one. Increase in supplication for matters of this world and matters of the Hereafter; all of it is good. Even if it is for matters of this world, you supplicate to Allah while prostrating, and that is good, because supplication itself is worship. If you say, for example, "O Allah, increase my wealth," "O Allah, prepare for me a beautiful dwelling," "O Allah, prepare for me a comfortable car," and the like, there is nothing wrong with that. Even if it is in the obligatory prayer, "O Allah, forgive me and my parents," because supplication is worship. Whatever you supplicate to Allah for, it is worship, whatever it is. Even it came in a hadith: The strap of the sandal. What is it? A cheap thing. Ask Allah for everything, because everything you ask Allah for is worship for you. Then know that when you ask Allah, you are a winner in every case, because either He gives you what you ask for, or He averts from you an evil that is greater, or He stores it for you with Allah on the Day of Resurrection as a reward. So whoever supplicates to Allah the Exalted is not disappointed. So increase in supplication, increase in supplication to Allah, increase in seeking forgiveness from Allah and repenting to Him. For the Messenger, may the prayer and peace of Allah be upon him, said: Sunan Abi Dawud 1515Sahih (Al-Albani) And he is the one to whom Allah has forgiven what came before of his sin and what came after. Strive to seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him a hundred times. Do not neglect this in a day, and it is easy. That means you say, "I seek forgiveness from Allah and I repent to Him," and you complete a hundred times within ten minutes or less. The matter is simple. You achieve good and following the Messenger, may the prayer and peace of Allah be upon him. And Allah is the One who grants success.
