Explanation of Riyad al-Salihin-88b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As for the chapter following this one, it is the chapter on the prohibition for one who intends to sacrifice from taking anything from his hair or nails until he sacrifices. It mentions this hadith of Umm Salimah (may Allah be pleased with her), in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said
When the crescent of Dhu al-Hijjah appears and one of you has a sacrificial animal, let him not take anything from his hair or nails. إذا أهل هلال ذي الحجة ولأحدكم ذبح فلا يأخذن من شعره ولا من ظفره شيئا
meaning until he sacrifices. So when the ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah enter and you intend to sacrifice an udhiyah for yourself or for someone else from your wealth, do not take anything from your hair, not from the armpits, not from the pubic area, not from the mustache, and not from the head, until you sacrifice. Likewise, do not take anything from the nails, whether of the foot or the hand, until you sacrifice. And others besides Muslim added
Nor from his skin. ولا من بشرته
meaning from his skin, he should not take anything until he sacrifices. This is out of respect for the sacrificial animal, and so that those who are not in the state of ihram may obtain what those in the state of ihram obtain from the respect shown to the hair. For when a person performs Hajj or 'Umrah, he does not shave his head until the sacrificial animal reaches its place. So Allah (Mighty and Majestic) intended to give His servants who did not perform Hajj or 'Umrah a share of the rituals of worship. And Allah knows best.
