The third question of Fatwa No. ( 16507 )
Q3: On the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah, 1413 AH, I made a mistake unintentionally. I plucked a single hair from my chest while forgetting, although I had not performed Hajj. However, I was told that this is not permissible because I am going to offer a sacrifice on behalf of my household. Is it true that a person who intends to offer a sacrifice is considered in a state of ihram, like one who has entered ihram for Hajj and gone to the Sacred Precinct?
A3: Whoever intends to offer a sacrifice must refrain from taking anything from his hair, nails, or skin during the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah until he slaughters his sacrificial animal, because the hadith on this matter is authentic. It is the hadith of Umm Salama , traced to the Prophet:
When the ten days enter, and one of you intends to offer a sacrifice, let him not take anything from his hair or his nails until he sacrificesإذا دخل العشر وأراد أحدكم أن يضحي فلا يأخذ من شعره ولا من أظفاره شيئًا حتى يضحي
It was narrated by Ahmad and Muslim in his (Sahih). He is not considered to be in a state of ihram; rather, this is a specific ruling. As for taking something from the hair or nails while forgetting or being ignorant, there is no blame on him; because Allah the Exalted said:
Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred.رَبَّنَا لاَ تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
the verse. And it is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in explaining this verse that Allah said:
He has done soقد فعلت
.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
