(Do you know what your Lord said?) They said: Allah and His Messenger know best.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And as for the second chapter, which is: the prohibition of a person saying, "We have been rained upon by such-and-such a constellation": this is also from Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him),
That they were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at al-Hudaybiyyah
Musannaf Abd al-Razzaq 13:171
: and al-Hudaybiyyah is a famous and well-known expedition. That is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out for Makkah performing 'Umrah, and with him were the camels of the sacrificial animals. When he reached al-Hudaybiyyah, which is a land between al-Hill and al-Haram, Quraysh prevented him from entering Makkah, and there occurred between them and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) what is known of the reconciliation. But on one of the nights, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led them in the Fajr prayer following a rain. When he finished his prayer, he turned to them and said:
"Do you know what your Lord has said (revealed)?" The people replied, "Allah and His Apostle know better."
Sahih al-Bukhari 846
: and he only asked them, or posed this question to them, in order to make them alert, because posing questions necessitates alertness.
They said: "Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ) know better."
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2870Hasan (Darussalam)
As for cosmic and decreed matters, one does not say: "and His Messenger knows best," because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) does not know the unseen. For example, if someone said: "Do you think it will rain tomorrow?" you say: "Allah knows best," and you do not say "Allah and His Messenger know best," because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) does not know such matters. But if he said to you: "Is this haram or halal?" you say: "Allah and His Messenger know best," because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has knowledge of the Shari'ah.
The important point is that they said: "Allah and His Messenger know best," and this is part of proper conduct,
He said: He said قال : قال
: meaning that Allah the Exalted said:
(Some of) My slaves got up believing in Me, And (some of them) disbelieving in Me.
Sahih al-Bukhari 4147
: meaning that on that night, Allah the Exalted said in what He revealed to His Prophet:
(Some of) My slaves got up believing in Me, And (some of them) disbelieving in Me.
Sahih al-Bukhari 4147
