"And it is not permissible for a Muslim to boycott his brother for more than three nights. When they kept reminding 'A'ishah of this and putting her in a difficult position, she began to recall them and weep, saying:

The reciter: "
it is unlawful for any Muslim not to talk to his (Muslim) brother (or sister, for that matter) for more than three (days)." So when they persisted in urging and reminding her of the superiority of having good relation with kith and kin, she began to weep, saying: "I have made a vow which is a matter of very serious nature." They persisted in their appeal till she spoke with 'Abdullah bin Az-Zubair, and she freed forty slaves as an expiation for breaking her vow. Later on, whenever she remembered her vow, she would weep so much that her veil would become wet with tears. ولا يحل لمسلم أن يهجر أخاه فوق ثلاث ليال ، فلما أكثروا على عائشة من التذكرة والتحريج طفقت تذكرهما وتبكي وتقول : إني نذرت والنذر شديد ، فلم يزالا بها حتى كلمت ابن الزبير وأعتقت في نذرها ذلك أربعين رقبة ، وكانت تذكر نذرها بعد ذلك فتبكي حتى تبلُ دموعُها خمارها
Riyad as-Salihin 1859
Al-Bukhari narrated it.
From 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir (may Allah be pleased with him):
One day the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went out and asked Allah's forgiveness for the martyrs of the battle of Uhud after eight years. It seemed that by so doing, he bid farewell to the living and the dead. He then came back, rose to the pulpit and said, "I shall be your precursor; I am a witness for you (before Allah), and I will be present before you at the River (Haud Al-Kauthar). By Allah I can see with my own eyes the Haud from this place. I am not afraid that you will associate anything with Allah in worship after (my demise), but I apprehend that you will vie with one another for the life of the world." The narrator said: It was the last time that I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
Riyad as-Salihin 1860
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
In another narration:
but I am afraid that you may be (allured) by the world and (vie) with one another (in possessing material wealth) and begin killing one another, and you would be destroyed as were destroyed those who had gone before you.
Sahih Muslim 2296b
.
'Uqbah said:
It was the last time that I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
Riyad as-Salihin 1860
.
In a narration, he said:
I will pave the way for you as your predecessor and will be a witness on you. By Allah! I see my Fount (Kauthar) just now and I have been given the keys of all the treasures of the earth (or the keys of the earth). By Allah! I am not afraid that you will worship others along with Allah after my death, but I am afraid that you will fight with one another for the worldly things.
Sahih al-Bukhari 1344

The meaning of the prayer for the martyrs of Uhud is supplication for them, not the known ritual prayer "

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
These are two great hadiths containing benefits. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned them at the end of his book *Riyad al-Salihin* in the scattered hadiths:
The first hadith is the hadith of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), the Mother of the Believers, and the best of his wives after his death (may Allah be pleased with her). She was of high standing in knowledge, worship, opinion, and management. 'Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr, who was her nephew through his mother Asma bint Abi Bakr, heard that she had given a large amount of charity. He considered it excessive and said:
If you do not stop, I will place a restriction on her.
. This is a harsh statement regarding the Mother of the Believers 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), because he was her nephew, and she possessed opinion, knowledge, patience, and wisdom such that such a statement should not be made about her. Placing her under a legal restriction means preventing her from disposing of her wealth, or from giving large amounts of charity from her wealth.
So I heard about it and was informed of it.
: The talebearers who spread tales among people and corrupt relations between them through talebearing, may Allah protect us from that, informed her of this.
Talebearing is one of the major sins. Allah has warned against the talebearer, even if he swears an oath, saying:
(10) And do not obey every worthless habitual swearer (11) [And] scorner, going about with malicious gossip -
[Al-Qalam 68:10-11]
.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by two graves of Muslims in Medina and said: “They are being punished in their graves, and they are not being punished for something major.”
: This means they are not punished for a difficult or hard matter; they are punished for a matter that is easy to perform, not because of its magnitude in the sight of Allah.
One of them was heedless about preventing urine from getting on his clothes
Sunan Ibn Majah 347Sahih (Darussalam)
: This means he does not perform complete cleaning after relieving himself, and if urine hits his garment or body, he does not care about it, so he is punished in his grave.
and the other used to walk about spreading malicious gossip.
Sunan Ibn Majah 347Sahih (Darussalam)
: He comes to people and tells some of what others said in order to create division between them, may Allah protect us from that. So talebearing is one of the major sins, and a person is punished for it in his grave.
And no talebearer will enter Paradise.
We ask Allah for safety.
The important point is that this statement reached 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her): that he said he intended to place her under a legal restriction. So she (may Allah be pleased with her) vowed, she vowed not to speak to him ever, due to the intensity of her emotional reaction and anger toward her nephew. She vowed not to speak to him ever and boycotted him. It is known that the boycott by the Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her) of her nephew would be severe for him. He tried to appease her, but she was resolute because she considered the vow to be serious. He sought intercession with her through two men from the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). They indeed employed a stratagem with the Mother of the Believers, but it was a good stratagem, because it led to a good objective, which is reconciliation between people. Lying in reconciliation between people with the tongue is permissible, so how much more so with actions!
Narrated Um 'Atiyya: Once the Prophet (ﷺ) went to `Aisha and asked her whether she had something (to eat). She said that she had nothing except the mutton which Um 'Atiyya had sent to (Barirah) in charity. The Prophet (ﷺ) said that it had reached its destination (i.e. it is no longer an object of charity.)
Sahih al-Bukhari 2579
: They asked permission to enter upon her and greeted her. This is the Sunnah when asking permission: when you knock on a person's door, you say: "Peace be upon you."
Then they asked her permission to enter, and they said: “May we come in?” She said: “Yes.” They said: “All of us?” She said: “All of you.”
: She did not know that 'Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr was with them, but she did not ask if 'Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr was with them, so she did not inquire specifically. She gave a general answer: "Enter, all of you." So they entered. When they entered upon her, and she was behind the screen, the screen of the Mothers of the Believers, which is a covering by which the Mothers of the Believers conceal themselves so that people do not see them. It is different from the hijab that is for ordinary women, because the hijab for ordinary women is covering the face and body. But this screen is a barrier and partition between the Mothers of the Believers and people.
When they entered the house, 'Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr entered the screen, because he was her nephew, so she is one of his mahrams. He bent over her, kissing her and weeping, calling upon her by Allah (Mighty and Majestic), warning her against cutting off ties, and explaining to her that this is not permissible. But she said:
A vow is serious.
. Then the two men persuaded her to turn away from her resolve to boycott and reminded her of the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
It is not permissible for a Muslim to have estranged relations with his brother beyond three
Sahih Muslim 2561
. Until she was convinced, and she wept, and she spoke to 'Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr. But this matter distressed her severely, so whenever it was mentioned, she wept (may Allah be pleased with her), because it was serious. And this is a rule for every person who fears Allah: "The more a person knows of Allah, the more he fears Him". Whenever she recalled this vow and that she had broken it, she wept (may Allah be pleased with her). And with this, she freed forty slaves for the sake of this vow, so that Allah the Exalted would free her neck from the Fire. In this is proof of the intensity of the faith of the Mothers of the Believers and their eagerness to be saved from the Fire and to be free from the punishment of the disbelievers.
In this hadith, there is evidence for several benefits:
Among the benefits: That it is not permissible for a person to boycott his brother, especially if he is a relative, for more than three days. And that it is obligatory for him to break his vow and make expiation, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
If anyone swears an oath and considers something else to be better than it he should make atonement for his oath and do that
Mishkat al-Masabih 3413
. So if you swore not to enter the house of a person who is one of your relatives because he wronged you, it is forbidden for you to boycott him. And it is obligatory for you to make expiation for your oath and to maintain your family ties and your relative. And Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is Forgiving and Merciful. Regarding the oath, if you make expiation for your oath and do what is better, that is the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
And among the benefits: The virtue of reconciliation between people. It is known that reconciliation between people is among the best of deeds. Allah the Exalted said:
No good is there in much of their private conversation, except for those who enjoin charity or that which is right or conciliation between people. And whoever does that seeking means to the approval of Allah - then We are going to give him a great reward.
[An-Nisa 4:114]
.
And among the benefits: The permissibility of stratagems if they do not lead to something forbidden, because 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) was the subject of a stratagem by the two men in entering upon her with 'Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr.
And among the benefits: The softness of the hearts of the Companions and their quickness to weep (may Allah be pleased with them) out of fear of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). This is proof of the softness of the heart and its fear of Allah. The harder a person's heart is, the further he is from weeping, may Allah protect us from that. Therefore, we see that when people were closer to the Hereafter than they are today, we find in them humility, weeping, standing in night prayer, turning to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), charity, and doing good. But when hearts became hard, the admonitions passed over them like water over a stone, and they did not benefit from them at all. We ask Allah for safety and well-being for you and for us, for He is Able to do all things.
