The Shaykh : As for the second hadith of Abu Hurayrah: it is about the story of the man who went out to give charity, and it is well known that charity is for the poor and the needy. So his charity fell into the hand of a thief, and the people began to talk in the morning: "He gave charity to a thief last night!" And a thief should be punished, not given to so that his wealth increases. So this man who brought out the charity and it fell into the hand of a thief said: "Praise be to Allah." He praised Allah because Allah the Exalted is praised in all circumstances. And it was part of the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that when something pleased him, he would say: : So when something that pleases you comes to you, say: Sunan Ibn Majah 3803Da'if (Darussalam) .
And when the opposite of that came to him, he would say:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2738Hasan (Darussalam) : This is the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
As for what some people use: "Praise be to Allah, who is not praised for a disliked thing other than Him" , this phrase should not be said, because the word "for a disliked thing" indicates your dislike of this matter, and that there is a type of distress in it. But say as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2738Hasan (Darussalam) .
And a person, without doubt, in this world, one day something that pleases him comes to him, and one day something that does not please him comes to him. For the world is not pure in every aspect; rather, its purity is spoiled by impurity. We ask Allah to write for us and for you a share in it until the Hereafter. But when something that pleases you comes to you, say:Sunan Ibn Majah 3803Da'if (Darussalam) , and what displeases you? Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2738Hasan (Darussalam) .
Then this man went out and said: : A prostitute who commits fornication, and I seek refuge in Allah, who allows people to commit fornication with her. Sahih Ibn Hibban 13:148 : And this is something that is not accepted, not by the fitrah. So he said: : And the rich man is not among those who are entitled to charity. The rich man is among those who are entitled to gifts, presents, and generosity, and the like of that. : And what does he want? He wants his charity to fall into the hand of a poor, modest, and pure man, but the decree of Allah was a predetermined destiny. So it was said to him: And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan ad-Daraqutni 26:21 . This man exerted effort and what he wanted did not work out, so it was said to him:
وأما السارق فلعله أن يستعف عن السرقة : Perhaps he will say, "This money is enough for me, and my theft was out of need." , because perhaps she was committing fornication, and I seek refuge in Allah, seeking money, and she has obtained it, so she will refrain from fornication. Sahih al-Bukhari 1421 .
Look, a good intention yields good fruits, and all of this that was mentioned is expected. Perhaps the thief will refrain from stealing, the prostitute from fornication, and the rich man will take a lesson and give charity and not be stingy.
So in this hadith is evidence that if a person intends good and strives for it but misses it, it is written for him and it does not harm him. For this reason, the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) said: "If he gives his zakah to someone he thinks is among those entitled to zakah, and it turns out that he is not among those entitled to zakah, then it is sufficient" . For example, you see a man in tattered clothes, wearing tattered garments, and you think he is poor, so you give him zakah. Then the people say in the morning: "So-and-so is rich, he has a lot of money." Is your zakah sufficient? The answer?
The student: Yes.
The Shaykh : Your zakah is sufficient, because it was said to this man: "Your charity has been accepted." Your zakah is sufficient. And likewise, if you give it to someone else whom you thought was entitled but he was not entitled, then it is sufficient for you. And success is from Allah.
Praise be to Allah, by whose grace good deeds are completed
Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi bi ni'matihi tatimmus-salihat (Praise is to Allah by Whose grace good deeds are completed)
And when the opposite of that came to him, he would say:
Al-Hamdulillah 'Ala Kulli Hal (All praise is due to Allah in every circumstance).
As for what some people use: "Praise be to Allah, who is not praised for a disliked thing other than Him" , this phrase should not be said, because the word "for a disliked thing" indicates your dislike of this matter, and that there is a type of distress in it. Then this man went out and said:
I will surely give charity tonight, so he went out and gave charity, and his charity fell into the hand of a prostitute
So the people began to talk in the morning: "He gave charity to a prostitute last night"
Praise be to Allah, then he said, "I will surely give charity tonight," -as if he saw that his first and second charity was not accepted- so he gave charity and it fell into the hand of a rich man
So the people began to talk in the morning: "He gave charity to a rich man last night." He said: "Praise be to Allah for the thief, the prostitute, and the rich man"
Your charity has been accepted
If the judge rules and exerts effort but makes a mistake, he has a reward
As for your charity, it has been accepted, and as for the thief, perhaps he will refrain from stealing.
And as for the prostitute, perhaps she will refrain from committing unlawful sexual intercourse.
وأما البغي فلعلها أن تستعف عن الزناand that given to the wealthy man might make him take a lesson from it and spend his wealth which Allah has given him, in Allah's cause.
Look, a good intention yields good fruits, and all of this that was mentioned is expected. Perhaps the thief will refrain from stealing, the prostitute from fornication, and the rich man will take a lesson and give charity and not be stingy.
