The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*:
"From 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir (may Allah be pleased with him):
One day the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went out and asked Allah's forgiveness for the martyrs of the battle of Uhud after eight years. It seemed that by so doing, he bid farewell to the living and the dead. He then came back, rose to the pulpit and said, "I shall be your precursor; I am a witness for you (before Allah), and I will be present before you at the River (Haud Al-Kauthar). By Allah I can see with my own eyes the Haud from this place. I am not afraid that you will associate anything with Allah in worship after (my demise), but I apprehend that you will vie with one another for the life of the world." The narrator said: It was the last time that I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
Riyad as-Salihin 1860
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
In a narration:
but I am afraid that you may be (allured) by the world and (vie) with one another (in possessing material wealth) and begin killing one another, and you would be destroyed as were destroyed those who had gone before you.
Sahih Muslim 2296b
.
'Uqbah said:
It was the last time that I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
Riyad as-Salihin 1860
.
In another narration, he said:
I will pave the way for you as your predecessor and will be a witness on you. By Allah! I see my Fount (Kauthar) just now and I have been given the keys of all the treasures of the earth (or the keys of the earth). By Allah! I am not afraid that you will worship others along with Allah after my death, but I am afraid that you will fight with one another for the worldly things.
Sahih al-Bukhari 1344

The meaning of the prayer for the slain of Uhud is supplication for them, not the known prayer"
.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
This hadith was mentioned by the author (may Allah have mercy on him) in his book *Riyad al-Salihin* in the last of its chapters on scattered hadiths:
From 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to Uhud and prayed for the martyrs there: meaning, he supplicated for them (peace and blessings be upon him), and the meaning is not the known prayer, as the author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, because the known funeral prayer is only performed before burial, not after burial, except for one who missed the prayer before burial, in which case he prays for him after burial. But this is the prayer of supplication, and the word "prayer" comes to mean supplication, as in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke [Allah 's blessings] upon them
[At-Tawbah 9:103]
meaning, supplicate for them.
Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended the pulpit and delivered a sermon to the people like one bidding farewell, and he informed them that he sees his Pond: his Pond is the one that will be in the open spaces of the Day of Resurrection:
Its water is whiter than milk, sweeter than honey, and more fragrant than musk, and its vessels are like the stars of the sky in number and light
: This Pond will be approached by people who are thirsty from the long standing on the Day of Resurrection, and the believers will drink from it, may Allah make me and you among those who drink from it by His grace and generosity, and the sinful disbelievers will be driven away from it. So whoever drinks from his stream in this world and is guided by his Sunnah and follows his tracks, let him be glad that he will drink from his Pond on the Day of Resurrection, and whoever is not like that will be deprived of it, may Allah protect us.
The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say:
He is looking at his Pool right now
: It was revealed to him in this world as it was revealed to him when he saw Paradise and saw the Fire in the eclipse prayer, and these are matters of the unseen that we do not know how they are, but Allah and His Messenger know best. The important thing for us is to believe and be truthful. So this Pond will be approached by people on the Day of Resurrection and they will drink from it, except for those who transgress and are arrogant, may Allah protect us.
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that he does not fear shirk for his Ummah, because the lands, praise be to Allah, were conquered and their people turned to the oneness of Allah, and it did not occur to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that shirk would occur after that.
But it does not follow from this, meaning from the fact that he did not fear shirk for his Ummah, that it will not occur, for shirk has occurred now. Shirk exists, it exists now among Muslims: one who says he is a Muslim while he circumambulates graves, asks the buried ones, slaughters for them, and makes vows for them. So shirk exists.
And the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say: "You will not associate partners with Allah," so that we would say that what has occurred is not shirk, because the Messenger denied that shirk would occur, and he does not speak from desire, but he said:
I do not fear
: And this is based on the clarity of the call in his time (peace and blessings be upon him), and the clarification of the oneness of Allah and the people's adherence to it. But it does not follow from this that it will continue until the Day of Resurrection, and for this reason shirk has occurred. And it indicates this that it is authentically reported from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
that the Hour will not come until groups of his Ummah (the Muslim community) worship idols
: meaning, many groups who worship idols.
But the Messenger in that hour did not fear shirk for his Ummah, but he feared something else, to which people are quicker: that the worldly life will be opened up to the Ummah, so they will compete for it and fight over it, and it will destroy them as it destroyed those before them. And this is what has occurred now. Now the worldly life has been opened up and has come to us from every side, and there is in it what does not come to mind from what came before, and if someone were told about it, he would not believe it, but it has occurred. So people now compete for it and fight over it, and it has destroyed them as it destroyed those before them. And those who did not fight over it, their hearts turned to the worldly life, may Allah protect us. The worldly life is their concern in sleep and wakefulness, sitting and standing, night and day, until the famous proverb has become a reality for many people, which is: "The lawful is what falls into the hand, whether it is haram or halal" , and the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) has become true for them:
A time will come upon people when a man will not care whether he takes money from what is lawful or what is forbidden
, may Allah protect us. People now fight over the worldly life - over the worldly life - and the wonder is that a person toils after the worldly life that was created for him, so it is as if he is the one who was created for it, may Allah protect us. He serves it with great service, exhausting his body, mind, thought, rest, and companionship with his family. Then what? He may lose it in an instant. In one instant, he goes out of his house and does not return to it. He sleeps on his bed and does not wake up from it, and this is observed. And the wonder is that we observe these verses, but the hearts are hard. We observe one who married a woman and did not enter with her, and he died before entering with her, despite his intense longing for her and his hope, but death prevented him.
We find that people have their wedding invitation cards with them, and then they die, and the cards are in their cars. So what is the benefit of the worldly life, when it is to this extent in delusion?!
Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed, and he is the Merciful to the believers, the Compassionate to them, the Concerned for them:
that he only fears for us that the world will be opened up to us and we will compete in it
: And this is the reality. So beware, my brother, do not let the worldly life delude you, and do not let the delusion with Allah delude you. If Allah expands your provision and you are grateful, it is better for you, and if your provision is restricted and you are patient, it is better for you. But to make the worldly life the greatest of your concerns and the limit of your knowledge, this is a loss in this world and the Hereafter. May Allah protect us and you from the trials, what is apparent of them and what is hidden.
