Commentary on *Iqtida' al-Sirat al-Mustaqim*-03a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: "And from Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
The hypocrites among you today are worse than the hypocrites who were in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). We said: How is that? He said: Those used to hide their hypocrisy, while these have made it public.
.
As for the Sunnah: it came with the news of their similarity in this world, the condemnation of that, and the prohibition of that, and likewise in religion. As for the first, which is enjoying the wealth: in *the two Sahihs* from Amr ibn Awf
That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Abu Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah to Bahrain to bring its jizyah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was the one who made the treaty with the people of Bahrain and appointed al-'Ala' ibn al-Hadrami over them. Abu Ubaydah arrived with wealth from Bahrain. The Ansar heard of Abu Ubaydah's arrival and they attended the Fajr prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he turned away, and they approached him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled when he saw them, then said: 'I think you have heard that Abu Ubaydah has arrived with something from Bahrain?' They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said: 'Rejoice and hope for what pleases you. By Allah, poverty is not what I fear for you, but I fear that the world will be spread out for you, as it was spread out for those before you, so you will compete for it, as they competed for it, and it will destroy you as it destroyed them.'
.
So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that he does not fear the trial of poverty, but rather he fears the spreading of the world, competition for it, and its destruction. This is the enjoyment of the wealth mentioned in the verse.
And in *the two Sahihs* from 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out one day and prayed over the people of Uhud with his prayer for the dead, then he went to the pulpit and said: “I am your forerunner and I am a witness over you, and by Allah, I am looking at my Pool right now, and I have been given the keys to the treasuries of the earth – or the keys to the earth – أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم خرج يوماً فصلى على أهل أحد صلاته على الميت ، ثم انصرف إلى المنبر فقال : إني فرط لكم وأنا شهيد عليكم ، وإني والله لأنظر إلى حوضي الآن وإني أعطيت مفاتيح خزائن الأرض - أو مفاتيح الأرض -
"

The Shaykh : In the accusative case
The reader: Sam "
(or the keys of the earth). By Allah! I am not afraid that you will worship others along with Allah after my death, but I am afraid that you will fight with one another for the worldly things.
Sahih al-Bukhari 1344
.
In a narration:
but I am afraid that you may be (allured) by the world
Sahih Muslim 2296b
"
.

The Shaykh : But I fear.
The reader: I have a copy

The Shaykh : But I
The student: With a yaa.

The Shaykh : With a yaa
The student: In the edition "but".

The Shaykh : But, okay.
The reader: "
but I am afraid that you may be (allured) by the world and (vie) with one another (in possessing material wealth) and begin killing one another, and you would be destroyed as were destroyed those who had gone before you.
Sahih Muslim 2296b
'Uqbah said:
It was the last time that I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
Riyad as-Salihin 1860
"
.

The Shaykh : This hadith contains issues. The first issue: Is the prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) over the martyrs of Uhud, his prayer for the dead with its takbirs and facing the qiblah and the like, or is the intended meaning supplication?
The student: The second.

The Shaykh : The second is the intended meaning, because the prayer for the dead, the known prayer, is only performed before burial at the time of death, and it is not performed after that unless the prayer is repeated a second time, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did with the woman who used to clean the mosque, for he prayed over her after her burial.
And in it, also in the second issue, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that he is the forerunner of his Ummah, meaning its leader, and that is on the Day of Resurrection. For he (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him) will be their forerunner and a witness over them. He is their forerunner at the Pool, standing until his Ummah drinks from it. May Allah make us and you among them.
And in it, also among the issues: that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is shown what has not been in this world, and it is in the Hereafter, meaning the thing in the Hereafter, and it is shown to him in this world, like his Pool. For he says:
I am looking at my Tank just now
Sahih al-Bukhari 4085
So the Pool, then, exists. And likewise he saw Paradise and he saw the Fire in the prayer of the eclipse. And among its issues: that he (peace and blessings be upon him) says:
I do not fear that you will associate partners with Allah.
Does that mean the absence of shirk in his Ummah, or does it mean that he fears for us more than his fear of shirk by opening up the world? The answer is the second, because shirk occurred in his Ummah. And like that is the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
Satan has despaired of ever being worshipping in this land of yours
Sunan Ibn Majah 3055Hasan (Darussalam)
It does not mean that shirk will not occur in it, but the meaning is that this was the thought of Shaytan when he saw the clear conquest and the establishment of tawhid in the Peninsula. He thought that shirk would not return, so he despaired. And this does not mean that Allah the Exalted does not decree shirk, so there is no argument for one who circumambulates the graves and calls upon the people of the graves in the Peninsula and says this is not shirk, because Shaytan has despaired that anyone other than Allah will be worshipped in this Peninsula. We say: informing about the occurrence of something does not mean that it is permissible. Have you not seen that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that this Ummah will follow the paths of those before them? They said: The Jews and the Christians? He said:
Yes, but who among the people except these?
Does what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) informed about mean that it is permissible? Answer.
The student: No.

The Shaykh : It is not permissible. We were informed of that as a warning. And likewise their informing that the woman will travel alone from such a place to such a place, fearing nothing but Allah, does not mean that it is permissible for her to travel without a mahram. But this is a narration of the reality. The reality is one thing, and the Shari'ah is another. And among the issues in this hadith is the warning against rushing into the world, because when it is opened up to a person, it destroys him. And this is the reality. And for that reason, you find that the most blessed people with wealth and the most humble are the least, but the most are distracted by the world and occupied by it against their will, so they compete for it and are destroyed. Yes.
