Explanation of the Book of Marriage-10

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He said: "And from Salim, from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) — Salim is the son of 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar — from his father, meaning 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), that Ghaylan ibn Salimah embraced Islam and he had ten wives, so they embraced Islam with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to choose four of them. It was narrated by Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Hibban and al-Hakim graded it as authentic, while al-Bukhari, Abu Zur'ah, and Abu Hatim pointed out a defect in it."
Al-Bukhari and these scholars pointed out a defect in the hadith because it is not reliably preserved. However, in reality, it aligns with the principles of Islamic law. This man was a disbeliever who had married ten women, and the law does not permit him more than four. So when he embraced Islam and they embraced Islam with him, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to choose four of them, meaning to separate from the rest. Who chooses the four? The first ones or the last ones? He chooses whoever he wishes. It is said: he chooses whoever he wishes, the first ones, the last ones, or the middle ones, whichever he wants. The important thing is that he does not keep more than four.
