Benefits of the Hadith: (That Ghaylan ibn Salama embraced Islam and he had ten wives, so they embraced Islam with him . . . )

The Shaykh : In this hadith, there is evidence for the following benefits:
The first benefit: If the marriage contract is defective and was completed during the time of disbelief, it is not ruled as defective. The reason for this is: If it were ruled as defective, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would have said: "Separate from the last six," is that not so? Because anything exceeding four is considered defective.
And among its benefits: If one embraces Islam and the obstacle has been removed, he remains in his marriage. Why? Because these women are not forbidden by their very selves; rather, it is forbidden to gather more than four. So if he separates from six, for example, the obstacle is removed.
And among the benefits of this hadith: It is not permissible for a man to gather more than four wives. This is supported by the saying of Allah the Exalted:[An-Nisa 4:3] And if it were permissible to exceed four, He would have said: "Marry whatever you wish of women, or whatever is pleasing to you," without restriction. So the fact that He (Glorified and Exalted is He) restricted it is evidence that it is not permissible for a man to gather more than four.
If it is said: Did not the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gather more than four? The answer is: Yes, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered more than four, there is no doubt in this; he died with nine. But this is from his specific characteristics, and Allah (Mighty and Majestic) granted him specific privileges in many matters of marriage that are not permissible for others. And Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has the right to grant privileges to whom He wills of His servants. Then, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was permitted more than four wives not for the sake of pleasure and desire, but for the sake of the great benefits that follow from having more women with him. And evidence for this is that he (peace and blessings be upon him) never married a virgin except Aisha; all those he married were previously married women except Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). And this indicates that the marriage of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was not intended merely to satisfy desire. If it were so, the virgin would have been better, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) knows this. And This indicates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) knows that the virgin is better than the previously married woman, and yet he did not marry any of the women except a previously married woman, except Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). So his marriage (peace and blessings be upon him) was for the sake of the many benefits that follow from plural marriage, and this is apparent to one who reflects on it.
