Benefits of the Hadith: (Wait until nightfall, meaning 'Isha', so that the disheveled woman can comb her hair and the absent one can shave).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Due to his saying:
so that the disheveled woman combs herself and the woman whose husband has been away cleans herself لكي تمتشط الشعثة وتستحد المغيبة
Sunan Abi Dawud 2778Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
Among the benefits of this hadith is the permissibility of a person being disheveled, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said that in a way that established it; otherwise, he would have forbidden it. However, although it is permissible, it is better for a person not to be so, not to be disheveled if a person sees him and is repelled by it, because some people, for example, grow a beard, but by growing it, they make it disheveled and dusty. If you see them, you might want to flee from them, and this is not appropriate. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) grew a beard, but he would comb it until it is narrated from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
He who has hair should honour it. من كان له شعر فليكرمه
Sunan Abi Dawud 4163Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
. This is contrary to what the common people narrate, saying: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Honor the beards and trim the mustaches أكرموا اللحى وحفوا الشوارب
. Some of the common people—may Allah forgive me—say: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Honor the beards and disgrace the mustaches. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say this. Therefore, some of the open sinners said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Honor the beards أكرموا اللحى
. We say: We hear and obey, and we honor it by shaving it, because leaving the hair on it contaminates it, so purifying it is better; this is the honor. I say: Falsehood may be built upon falsehood. When they said this, they said: If the Messenger said this, then we hear and obey, and this is honoring the beards. But we say: This hadith is false and it is not permissible to attribute it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The utmost that is narrated is that he said:
He who has hair should honour it. من كان له شعر فليكرمه
Sunan Abi Dawud 4163Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
, meaning: by combing and cleaning so that the disheveledness does not remain, and it does not become dusty, which would be a cause for the breeding of insects. The result is that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) approved this state, but it is not appropriate
Verily, Allah is Graceful and He loves Grace إن الله جميل يحب الجمال
Sahih Muslim 91a
. So a person leaving himself in this state is an unacceptable matter.
Among the benefits of this hadith is considering the state of one's family, so that a person does not come to them unexpectedly when they are in a state that causes disgust. In fact, what is appropriate for a person is to come to his family when they are in the best appearance, which necessitates affection and love. Look at the wisdom of the Lawgiver: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would order his family, if he intended to have intercourse with a woman who was menstruating, to cover themselves. Why? So that he would not see from her what he dislikes of the traces of blood. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would order Aisha to cover herself, and he would have intercourse with her while she was menstruating, so that he would not see from her what the soul dislikes, and disgust would not be imprinted in his heart regarding her.
Among the benefits of this hadith is that a person should, if he has been absent for a long time, not visit his family at night unless he has sent them news beforehand. If he has sent them news beforehand, there is no harm. For example, if he says: I will arrive in the city on the trip coming at eleven o'clock or one o'clock, for example, what is this? This is permissible, because they will be prepared for him and ready for him. The prohibited thing, the entire prohibited thing, is that he comes to them in an undesirable state.
