Explanation of the Book of Marriage-11

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then he said: "And from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
We were with the Prophet (ﷺ) on an expedition. Then, when we arrived at al-Madinah and were about to enter he said, "Wait so that you may enter by night - i.e. in the evening in order that the woman with disheveled hair may comb it and the woman whose husband has been away may shave her pubic hairs (getting ready for her husband)."
Bulugh al-Maram 8:60
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And in a narration by al-Bukhari:
When anyone of you is away from his house for a long time, he should not return to his family at night.
Sahih al-Bukhari 5244
"
.
Yes, he said:
When we were near Medina on our return from an expedition in which we had accompanied the Prophet
Mishkat al-Masabih 3088
and he did not specify the expedition, and not specifying it does no harm, why? Because the intended point is the ruling, and this happens often in the hadiths, where he says, for example: "A man said," or "We were on an expedition," or "We were traveling," or something similar. And the general rule is that specifying this vague reference is not needed, because the intended point is knowing the ruling. It might be needed, for example, to know, for instance, whether this abrogates what came before it or not? But it is not necessary in most cases, so we say "on an expedition," whichever expedition it was, it does no harm if we do not know which one.
He says:
Then when we arrived at and were about to enter
Sahih Muslim 715h
"We arrived" here means: we approached arrival, as evidenced by his saying:
We went to enter.
and that is because arrival is not realized except by entering. So when he said:
We went to enter.
we knew that the intended meaning of his saying
We arrived.
is: we approached. And it has been mentioned to us repeatedly that in the Arabic language, the verb is used for its intention or for its proximity, and this is part of the breadth of the Arabic language.
So he said:
Wait.
meaning: wait and give your families some time,
until you enter at night
meaning 'Isha, meaning not at the end of the night or in the middle of the night, but at the beginning of the night, because 'Isha is from the beginning of the night when the red twilight disappears.
Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the reason, saying:
so that the disheveled woman combs herself and the woman whose husband has been away cleans herself
Sunan Abi Dawud 2778Sahih (Al-Albani)
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. "The disheveled woman combs her hair" means she becomes disheveled, because if a woman does not have a husband with her, she does not care about herself or adorn herself, except if she goes to visit someone. Otherwise, you will find her disheveled in her clothes, in her hair, and in her appearance. If the husband is with her and she loves him, she will undoubtedly adorn herself for him in her hair, clothes, and so on. And if she does not love him, the matter is the opposite: if her head is combed and she senses his arrival, she will make it disheveled. If she has clothes that are fine, she will change them to something worse. And if she senses or feels that he is about to arrive, she must comb her hair, meaning comb her head, until the dishevelment is removed.
and the absent woman may shave وتستحد المغيبة
"Shaving" means: removing what should be removed of hair, such as the armpits and the pubic area, and this includes the nails and the like.
The important point: that she removes what should be removed of hair, all of this is part of adorning herself for her husband and cleaning herself for him.
And in a narration by al-Bukhari:
When one of you stays away (from his family) for a long period of time
Riyad as-Salihin 985
so that the disheveled woman may comb her hair
indicates that the absence was long enough to cause the woman to become disheveled, and likewise
the absent woman may shave تستحد المغيبة
indicates the length of the absence. But there is no doubt that what is indicated by the wording is more indicative than what is indicated by necessity. So al-Bukhari's explicit statement in this narration
if any of you stays away for a long time
is an explicit statement of what is understood by necessity from the first wording.
He says:
he should not return to his family at night.
Sahih al-Bukhari 5244
"The one who comes at night" is the one who comes at night, and from this is His saying, the Exalted:
And the sky and the night star
the star that appears at night, so the one who comes at night is the one who comes at night. And the meaning of
he comes to his family at night
the word "at night" is for emphasis, because coming at night is coming at night, and perhaps "coming at night" is used for coming in general. And on this basis, his saying:
at night ليلًا
is for establishment, not for emphasis, because if we make it for emphasis, it means that it can be dispensed with. And if we make it for establishment, it cannot be dispensed with. And if we assume that coming at night is only at night, we say that the mention of emphasis here is to remove the possibility. What is the possibility? The possibility that coming at night is coming during the day. Okay.
Okay, it is derived from this hadith: that among the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is his participation in the military expeditions, that he himself participates in the military expeditions, as indicated by his saying:
When we were near Medina on our return from an expedition in which we had accompanied the Prophet
Mishkat al-Masabih 3088
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) participated in twenty-nine military expeditions himself, fighting in them, peace and blessings be upon him.
And among the benefits of this hadith: the good care of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for his Ummah, to the extent that he taught them how to enter upon their families.
And among the benefits of this hadith: that among the guidance of the Companions is that a woman adorns herself for her husband by removing dishevelment and cleaning herself.
