She left school and her mother is not pleased
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: A woman says: I left school and my mother is not pleased. Am I sinful?
A: Study holds great good and significant benefit, and it is obligatory for the Muslim man and woman to learn and understand the religion; because it is obligatory for the Muslim to understand his religion and learn what he cannot afford to be ignorant of.
And among the causes of happiness is understanding the religion, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1037a So among the signs of goodness and happiness is: understanding the religion of Allah, and understanding the Shari'ah so that the Muslim knows what is obligatory upon him and what is forbidden upon him; so he worships Allah with insight. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 2699a.
So it is obligatory upon you to learn and understand the religion if that is facilitated in good, trustworthy Islamic schools. And if your mother insists on it, this is what obligates you to pay even more attention and diligence to understanding the religion; because obeying the parents is what increases for you good and benefit, both immediate and deferred. So you should not disobey her in that, except if the school involves free mixing of men and women, or if it contains other matters that harm you in your religion. In that case, it is obligatory upon you, given the situation mentioned, to leave the study, even if your mother or father is not pleased; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Mishkat al-Masabih 3696.
May Allah guide everyone, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon Muhammad, his family, and all his Companions.
