A woman who caused her own death but repented before she died
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I have a married sister who has three children. She was constantly in conflict with her husband, and she was also in conflict with her father. The cause was her husband, who treated her very harshly, which forced her to leave the house and go to her divorced mother’s house, where her mother was married to another man. Her mother’s husband also treated her badly.
So I, her brother, took an apartment for her to live in with me. She often went to her mother, and once her mother’s husband forced her to go and leave her children with her husband, so she did so to please her mother.
One day, a dispute arose between her and her mother’s husband, and she went to her apartment, deeply affected by the misfortunes she had gone through and the fact that her children had been kept away from her. She took some pills from the refrigerator and ate them all, intending to end her life. We took her to the hospital and she received the necessary treatment. Before her death, she realized she was in her final days, so she repented and sought forgiveness frequently for what she had done. She asked us to pray for her forgiveness. Allah willed it, and she passed away. What will be her state after that? And is it permissible for me to give charity and perform Hajj on her behalf? I have vowed to perform these acts for the rest of my life, if Allah wills. Please advise us in the pages of the magazine: (Al-Da'wah).
A: Since your aforementioned sister repented to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and regretted the causes of suicide she engaged in, forgiveness is hoped for her. Repentance wipes out what came before it, and the one who repents from a sin is like one who has no sin, as the authentic hadiths from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) state. If you give charity on her behalf, seek forgiveness for her, and pray for her, that is good, and it will benefit her, and you will be rewarded for it. As for the acts of obedience you have vowed, you must fulfill them; because Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) praised those who fulfill their vows in His saying: in praise of the righteous: [Al-Insan: 7] and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Ibn Majah 2126Sahih (Darussalam) narrated by Imam al-Bukhari in his Sahih.

They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread.
يُوفُونَ بِالنَّذْرِ وَيَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا كَانَ شَرُّهُ مُسْتَطِيرًاWhoever vows to obey Allah, let him obey Him, and whoever vows to disobey Allah, let him not disobey Him.
من نذر أن يطيع الله فليطعه، ومن نذر أن يعصي الله فلا يعصه
