Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : These two hadiths are in explanation of repentance, and that whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance, no matter how great his sin, because Allah the Exalted said in His Book:
(68) And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed], except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do that will meet a penalty. (69) Multiplied for him is the punishment on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein humiliated - (70) Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
[Al-Furqan 25:68-70]
. So the first hadith is from Abdullah ibn Abbas and Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with them both): that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If the son of Adam had a valley of gold, he would seek another valley -and Allah accepts the repentance of whoever repents- and nothing will fill the belly of the son of Adam except dust, and Allah accepts the repentance of whoever repents
: meaning that the son of Adam will not be satiated with wealth, and if he had one valley, he would seek, meaning: desire, to have two valleys, and nothing will fill his belly except dust, and that is when he dies and is buried and leaves the world and what is in it; at that time he is content, because it has passed him by. But despite that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged repentance, because the one who has greed for wealth generally does not guard against forbidden things, from forbidden earnings, but the cure for that is repentance to Allah. For this reason he said:
And Allah forgives him who repents to Him.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6439

As for the second hadith, it is from Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allah laughs at two men. One of them kills the other, but each of them will enter the Garden
Muwatta Malik 21:30
, and he gave an example for that: of a man who fought in the cause of Allah, so a man from among the disbelievers killed him and he was martyred. Then this killer, the disbeliever, became a Muslim and then was killed as a martyr, so both of them enter Paradise. Allah laughs at these two men, and that is because there was complete enmity between them in this world, to the extent that one of them killed the other. So Allah the Exalted turned this enmity that was in the heart of each of them, and removed what was in their souls of resentment, because the people of Paradise are purified from resentment and hatred, as Allah the Exalted said in describing them:
brothers on couches facing each other
,
And We will remove whatever is in their breasts of resentment, [so they will be] brothers, on thrones facing each other.
[Al-Hijr 15:47]
. This is the aspect of wonder from Allah Mighty and Majestic regarding these two men: that there was complete enmity between them, then Allah the Exalted and Glorious bestowed upon this killer who was a disbeliever, so he repented and Allah accepted his repentance. In it is evidence that if a disbeliever repents from his disbelief, even if he had killed one of the Muslims, then Allah the Exalted accepts his repentance, because Islam demolishes what came before it. And Allah grants success.
