The Ruling on a Doctor Being Alone with a Female Doctor or Nurse
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I am a doctor in an examination room, and a nurse accompanies me in the same room. Until a patient arrives, we converse about various matters. What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding this?
A: The ruling on this matter is the same as the one before it. It is not permissible for you to be alone with a woman, and it is not permissible for a male nurse or doctor to be alone with a female nurse or doctor, whether in an examination room or elsewhere, due to the aforementioned hadith and the fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) that results from it, except for whom Allah has mercy. It is obligatory that the examination of men be conducted by men alone, and the examination of women by women alone.
