Ruling on obeying one's father in shaving the beard, and going out for da'wah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
From 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Baz to the honorable brother: M. J. B. 'A, may Allah grant him understanding. Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.
Your letter has reached me—may Allah guide you to the right path—which contains:
a request for answers to two questions:
The first is about the ruling on your obedience to your father in shaving the beard.
The other is about the ruling on going out for da'wah with some of the groups that call to the religion of Allah.
In answer to the first question:
I inform you that it is not permissible for you to obey your father in shaving the beard; rather, it is obligatory to grow it and let it hang down, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan an-Nasa'i 15Sahih (Darussalam) and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani).
Letting the beard hang down is obligatory, not a recommended practice according to the jurisprudential terminology; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded it, and the default ruling for a command is obligation, and there is no factor that diverts from this.
As for the answer to the second question:
There is no harm in going out for da'wah, whether the time is specified by days or by months, according to the ability of the preachers, if they are people of insight and knowledge in the correct 'aqidah and the rulings of the pure Shari'ah; because specifying the time helps them to prepare for it with the necessary expenses, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to send preachers to Allah.
May Allah guide you to all good and help you to achieve it.
And peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Trim the mustache and let the beard grow."
أحفوا الشوارب وأعفوا اللحى خالفوا المشركينObedience is in matters which are good and universally recognized.
