Is it permissible to trim the beard, or is it obligatory to let it grow?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I have let my beard grow, and praise be to Allah; but now, whenever I meet any of my family or acquaintances, they disapprove of my beard and hurl hurtful words at me, asking me to trim it. I am determined to let it grow. Is it permissible to trim it, or should I persist in letting it grow and ignore their words?
A: It is obligatory for you to continue letting it grow and hang down, in obedience to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and in compliance with his command. You should ignore their words, disapprove of their speech, remind them of Allah, and make it clear that this is not permissible for them. In fact, their action is truly acting on behalf of Satan, because by doing so, they have become his deputies, calling people to the sins of Allah. We ask Allah for protection. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He also said: Sahih Muslim 260 And he said: Therefore, it is obligatory to let it hang down, let it grow, and keep it, and not to obey anyone who calls for it to be cut or shaved. We ask Allah for safety.
This is a confirmation of the hadith: It was also reported in the hadith of Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him), which is agreed upon as authentic, when he asked the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) about the evil that would occur after him (peace and blessings be upon him). He was told that in the end of the Ummah, there would be callers at the gates of Hell; whoever responds to them, they would throw them into it. I said: O Messenger of Allah, describe them to us? He said: Sahih al-Bukhari 7084 We ask Allah for protection. These people and their like are of the same kind as those mentioned by the questioner. Therefore, it is obligatory to be cautious of them and not to respond to what they call for, which contradicts the pure Shari'ah.
And Allah is the One to be sought for help, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Trim the mustaches and let the beards grow; be unlike the polytheists.
قصوا الشوارب، وأعفوا اللحى؛ خالفوا المشركينTrim closely the moustache, and grow beard, and thus act against the fire-worshippers.
جزوا الشوارب، وأرخوا اللحى؛ خالفوا المجوسLet the beards grow.

That in the end of times, there will come devils who call to disobedience to Allah and to committing His prohibitions.
