A brownish substance is discharged before the period; does she fast and pray during it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: This questioner says in a second question: Before the monthly period arrives, a brownish substance comes to me that lasts for five days, and after that the normal blood comes and lasts for eight days after the first five days. She says: I pray during these five days, but I am asking: Is it obligatory for me to fast and pray during these days or not? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.

A: If the five brownish days are separate from the blood, they are not part of menstruation. You must pray and fast during them and perform wudu for every prayer, because they are in the ruling of urination and do not have the ruling of menstruation. Therefore, they do not prevent prayer or fasting, but they require wudu every time until they stop, like the blood of irregular non-menstrual bleeding.
However, if these five days are connected to the menstruation, they are part of the menstruation and are counted as part of the custom. You must not pray or fast during them. Likewise, if this dark or yellow discharge comes after the purity from menstruation, it is not considered menstruation; rather, its ruling is the ruling of irregular non-menstrual bleeding. You must clean yourself from it every time, perform wudu, and pray and fast. It is not counted as menstruation, and you are lawful for your husband. This is based on the statement of Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her): "We did not count the dark or yellow discharge after purity as anything." Al-Bukhari narrated it in his Sahih, and Abu Dawud, and this is his wording.
And Umm Atiyyah is among the noble female Companions who narrated many hadiths from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). May Allah be pleased with her.
And success is from Allah.
