Delaying the Workers for the Prayers of Zuhr and 'Asr Until Night
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Many workers delay the prayers of Zuhr and 'Asr until night, excusing themselves by saying that they are busy with their work, or that their clothes are impure, or not clean. What do you advise them?
A: It is not permissible for a Muslim man or woman to delay the obligatory prayer from its time. Rather, it is obligatory for every Muslim man and woman who is accountable to perform the prayer in its time according to their ability. Work is not an excuse for delaying it, nor is the impurity or dirtiness of clothes. None of that is an excuse.
The times of prayer must be excluded from work, and the worker at the time of prayer must wash his clothes of impurity, or replace them with pure clothes.
As for dirt, it is not a barrier to praying in it, provided that the dirt is not from the impurities, or has a foul smell that bothers the worshippers. If the dirt bothers the worshippers by itself or by its smell, it is obligatory for the Muslim to wash it before prayer, or replace it with other clean clothes; so that he performs the prayer with the congregation.
And it is permissible for one who has a legal excuse—such as the sick and the traveler—to combine Zuhr and 'Asr in the time of one of them, and Maghrib and 'Isha' in the time of one of them, as the Sunnah is authentic regarding this from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
And likewise, it is permissible to combine in the rain and mud that is difficult for people.
