Q: The brother (A. A. J.) from the land of Maysan says in his question: What is the difference between the Prayer of Ishraq and the Prayer of Duha? What is the minimum number of its rak'ahs? What is the maximum? And when is each of them performed?
A: The Prayer of Ishraq is the Prayer of Duha in its earliest time, and it is better to perform it when the Duha rises and the heat intensifies; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih Muslim 748a, narrated by Muslim in his "Sahih".
And the meaning is: when the sun scorches the young camels. This is the meaning of, and the meaning of is: the heat becomes intense upon them.
And the minimum of the Prayer of Duha is two rak'ahs; for what is established in the two Sahihs from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:Mishkat al-Masabih 1262.
And it is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he prayed the Prayer of Duha eight rak'ahs on the Day of the Conquest.
And there is no limit to its maximum according to the most correct view; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to 'Amr ibn 'Abasa (may Allah be pleased with him) :, narrated by Muslim in his "Sahih" in a longer form.
So he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to pray after the sun rises until the sun stands still, and he did not specify a number of rak'ahs for him, so that indicates that the Prayer of Duha has no limit to its maximum.
And it is better to say the taslim from every two rak'ahs; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Abi Dawud 1295Sahih (Al-Albani), narrated by Imam Ahmad, Abu Dawud, and al-Tirmidhi. And Allah is the guarantor of success.
