Q: A young man says: In the early period of youth, I committed some sins, and I have repented to Allah—praise and thanks be to Allah—but something still remains in my heart. I have heard about the Prayer of Repentance, so I ask you to inform me about this. May Allah reward you with good.
A: Repentance wipes out what came before it and erases it—praise be to Allah—so you should not let anything of that remain in your heart. It is obligatory for you to have a good opinion of your Lord and to believe that Allah has accepted your repentance if you were sincere in it; for Allah says: [Surat al-Nur: 31], thus linking success to repentance, so whoever repents has succeeded. And He, the Exalted, said: [Surat Ta-Ha: 82], and He is the Truthful in His news and His promise. And He, the Exalted, said: [Surat al-Tahrim: 8], and from Allah is obligatory.
So you must have a good opinion of your Lord and that He has accepted your repentance, if you were sincere in your repentance, regretting what you did, ceasing from it, and resolving not to return to it. Beware of waswas (whispers of doubt). And Allah, (Exalted and Majestic is He), says in the Qudsi Hadith:Sahih al-Bukhari 7505, so you should have a good opinion of Allah. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 2877c, which Muslim narrated in his Sahih.
As for the Prayer of Repentance, it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the hadith of al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), in which he said:. Imam Ahmad narrated it. And success is from Allah.
A: Repentance wipes out what came before it and erases it—praise be to Allah—so you should not let anything of that remain in your heart. It is obligatory for you to have a good opinion of your Lord and to believe that Allah has accepted your repentance if you were sincere in it; for Allah says:
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.
O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow

I am to my slave as he thinks of Me
None of you should die but hoping only good from Allah
As for the Prayer of Repentance, it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the hadith of al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), in which he said:
No servant commits a sin, then purifies himself and performs the purification well, then prays two rak'ahs, then repents to Allah for his sin, but that Allah accepts his repentance.
