Explanation of the author's statement: "So whoever does not find [the means], then fasting for three consecutive days"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then he said "So whoever does not find, then fasting for three days" So whoever does not find what? That is how the verse came
And whoever cannot find [or afford such an animal] - then a fast of three days فمن لم يجد فصيام ثلاثة أيام
[Al-Baqarah 2:196]
Whoever does not find what?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : The object is omitted, and the omission of the object indicates generality. This is one of the rules: the omission of the object indicates generality. So, whoever does not find what to feed with, or to clothe with, or to free a slave with, and whoever does not find one to feed, or to clothe, yes, or to free, likewise. Ah, meaning, for example, a person who has money, a rich man, sought a slave but did not find one, sought poor people but did not find them. It was said to him that there are poor people in the farthest part of Malaysia, and he is in the farthest part of Morocco. Is he one who finds or one who does not find?

The questioner : One who does not find.

The Shaykh : Ten poor people, he has no food for a thousand poor people, ah? Is this one who finds or one who does not find?

The questioner : One who does not find.

The Shaykh : One who does not find, yes. So, whoever does not find, the omission of the object indicates what?

The questioner : Generality.

The Shaykh : Whoever does not find anything to buy food, clothing, or a slave with, or has money but does not find a place for this money, does not find a slave to be sold in the market, and does not find poor people to clothe or feed. And for this reason, this problem exists with us, praise be to Allah. Often, when we tell people, "You must feed ten poor people," they say, "Bring me poor people, I will give you [the food] to feed them." He does not find [them].
By Allah, that is what he said, in any case.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, Allah is the Greatest, he goes and hires a car.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : No, no, we mean the intermediate period, meaning the middle of the country, yes, there is difficulty.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : ... he is shy ... .

The Shaykh : No, it is not a problem. I swear by Allah, I issue rulings to people and say: these poor people who come to work, most of them have families and are poor. If you give them some of this food, you benefit them. For example, if you give them two sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) with meat, it is enough for them for lunch or dinner. There are ten of them, yes, it is enough for them for lunch and dinner, either for two days or one day. They are content to go and buy [what they need].

The questioner : ... he prays ... he does not pray.

The Shaykh : No, no, the disbeliever is not given [it], but our discussion is about the Muslim man.
And whoever cannot find [or afford such an animal] - then a fast of three days فمن لم يجد فصيام ثلاثة أيام
[Al-Baqarah 2:196]
And we want one of you now to parse "fasting" for us.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : So the obligatory is fasting for three days.

The questioner : It is a subject and a predicate, its estimation is ...

The Shaykh : So upon him.

The questioner : So upon him is fasting.

The Shaykh : Correct?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Okay, fasting for three days, look, now feeding does not correspond to fasting, correct?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Fasting is how many? Three, and feeding.

The questioner : Ten.

The Shaykh : Ten, and in the expiation for zihar, fasting for two months or feeding six poor people, is it close or not? And although the two months may be fifty-eight days.

The questioner : Sixty poor people.

The Shaykh : ... sixty poor people, okay, in the fidyah for harm.

The questioner : Three days or ...

The Shaykh : Or six poor people.

The questioner : Corresponding.

The Shaykh : Yes, half, yes. This indicates that there are matters hidden from people, the wisdom of Allah the Mighty and Majestic, which we cannot grasp. Otherwise, a person would say: As Allah made feeding a poor person in fasting in Ramadan for one day, and in the expiation for zihar and intercourse in the daytime of Ramadan for approximately one day, why did He make this different? We say this is among the matters we do not grasp, Allah knows best. Okay.
And the author said "consecutive" meaning one after the other. If he fasted them separately, it does not suffice. He fasted one day and broke the fast one day, and fasted one day and broke the fast one day, and fasted one day. How many days remain for him?

The questioner : Two days.
Another questioner : One day.

The Shaykh : Two days remain for him, because he broke the fast between the previous two days, so it did not become valid. Okay, what is the evidence, and Allah the Exalted said
And whoever cannot find [or afford such an animal] - then a fast of three days فمن لم يجد فصيام ثلاثة أيام
[Al-Baqarah 2:196]
and did not say "consecutive"?

The questioner : The original rule.

The Shaykh : What is the original rule? When Allah the Exalted intended, when He intended consecutiveness, He said
a fast for two months consecutively فصيام شهرين متتابعين
[An-Nisa 4:92]
, yes. And when He intended generality, He said
a ransom of fasting [three days] or charity or sacrifice ففدية من صيام أو صدقة أو نسك
[Al-Baqarah 2:196]
here, meaning He specified the number and did not mention consecutiveness.
The scholars said the evidence for that is the recitation of 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) "then fasting for three consecutive days" And the recitation of Ibn Mas'ud is a proof. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said
Whoever wants to read the Qur'an as it was revealed, let him read with the recitation of Ibn Umm 'Abd. من أراد أن يقرأ القرأن غضّا كما أنزل فليقرأ بقراءة ابن أم عبد
meaning Ibn Mas'ud. So, if his recitation is authenticated from him, it becomes a fixed proof, and this would be the evidence. Otherwise, we would have to generalize what Allah generalized.
