If fighting occurs between the coalition forces and the Iraqi forces, do we fight with the Iraqi forces or do we sit in our homes?

The questioner : Shaykh, a question. If Iraq is divided by the coalition forces, and fighting occurs between the coalition forces and the Iraqi forces, do we fight with the Iraqi forces, or do we sit in our homes, or do we try to fight as an independent group if possible?

The Shaykh : As for fighting as an independent group, that is not possible. This is understood from my previous statement, because there is no material preparation, at least during the occurrence of such fighting. As for the rest, in this situation, one must join one of the two fighting factions. Our answer to this question does not go beyond the answer we presented during the great fitnah (trial), when the disbelievers, along with some Islamic countries, unfortunately, gathered against Iraq. We denounced this, and we continue to denounce it most strongly. And when we said, and we continue to say and repeat what we said as an answer to this question: It is obligatory for you to fight alongside the Iraqis against the enemies of Islam and Muslims in all parts of the world. This is not to support the Ba'ath Party or to back the Ba'ath Party, but because we believe, as we also said in some of the tapes mentioned earlier, that when the disbelievers fight the people of Iraq, they are not fighting only the Ba'ath Party, but they are fighting the people of Iraq. And the people of Iraq, I said and I continue to say, especially after the detail I mentioned in the answer to the first question, that not every one who is a Ba'athist in the official system is a disbeliever in Islam. Therefore, we cannot say that the entire Iraqi people are disbelievers. So, disbelief is one religion, so do not fight with these or with those! No. One of the principles of Islam by which we hold our heads high is that it came with complete wisdom to address the problems of life from all its aspects. Among these is: if a Muslim falls between two calamities, between two trials, between two evils, and he must choose one of them, then in this case he chooses the lesser of the two evils. So, without doubt, in this situation, it is obligatory for Muslims to fight the attacking disbelievers on the land of Iraq with the Iraqi army, even if its system is Ba'athist and even if its system is one of disbelief, but the people are not disbelievers. Therefore, we used to denounce some of the fatwas that were issued from a narrow view of the ruler and some of the entourage that, so to speak, hover around this ruler, without looking at the people. And I will say a word that may not please some people, but I advise them to be patient: if a disbeliever rules over the land of Iraq, like America, for example, or Britain, or any of the other disbelieving countries, it is worse for the Muslims, the people of the Sunnah, than if the rule were Shi'ite. That is, if the rule were communist, it is worse than if it were Shi'ite, because these people do not believe in Allah and His Messenger at all. As for those Shi'ites, they believe, even though there is among them what there is of shirk (associating partners with Allah) and misguidance, and they are what they are called... what do they call them?
The student : The Rafidah.

The Shaykh : No, the sheikhs follow them.
The student : The awliya (close friends of Allah).

The Shaykh : Ah, no, no, the ayat (signs), yes, these ayat. They claimed, and I believe from my reading of some of their books, that they differ most strongly in some matters of creed, meaning, ah. And therefore, we must look at such problems through this lens. That is, our Lord (Mighty and Majestic), when He prohibited carrion, blood, and the flesh of the pig, but permitted that for the Muslim, it is from the perspective of repelling the greater harm with the lesser harm. So eating these forbidden things is haram (forbidden) and truly harmful, but this harm is less than the harm of a Muslim exposing himself to destruction. This is an Islamic principle. Therefore, the answer is that if that situation mentioned in your question occurs, it is obligatory to join the Iraqi army to fight the disbeliever.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And beware of that.
