The questioner : This questioner inquires about blessed verses in Surat al-Baqarah in the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Baqarah 2:199-202].
The Shaykh : Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:[Al-Baqarah 2:199]. The people of Makkah did not stand at 'Arafah during Hajj; they stood at Muzdalifah, saying, “We are the people of the Haram, so we cannot stand except in the Haram.” So they stood at Muzdalifah. Then Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Baqarah 2:199] For this reason, Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), while describing the Hajj of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), said: Sahih Muslim 1218a. But he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) passed by it and descended at Namirah. Then, when the sun had passed its zenith, he went to 'Arafah and stood there.
So Allah the Exalted commanded all people, including Quraysh, to depart from the place from which the people departed.
means: ask Allah for forgiveness, and forgiveness is covering the sin and pardoning it, [Al-Baqarah 2:173].
[Al-Baqarah 2:200] This is because when a person finishes an act of worship, he may be overcome by laziness or boredom and become heedless of the remembrance of Allah. So Allah the Exalted commanded that a person should remember his Lord when he has completed his rituals. This is like His saying in Surat al-Jumu'ah: [Al-Jumu'ah 62:9-10]. He commanded remembrance because a person is prone to heedlessness when he leaves the prayer and then goes about trade; he is prone to heedlessness. For this reason, He said: [Al-Anfal 8:45].
Then Allah the Exalted divided people into two categories:
Among them is he who says:[Al-Baqarah 2:200] and he has no concern for the Hereafter.
And among them is he who says:[Al-Baqarah 2:201-202].
(199) Then depart from the place from where [all] the people depart and ask forgiveness of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (200) And when you have completed your rites, remember Allah like your [previous] remembrance of your fathers or with [much] greater remembrance. And among the people is he who says, "Our Lord, give us in this world," and he will have in the Hereafter no share. (201) But among them is he who says, "Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire." (202) Those will have a share of what they have earned, and Allah is swift in account.
The Shaykh : Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
Then depart from the place from where [all] the people depart
Then depart from the place from where [all] the people depart
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) then set out and the Quraish did not doubt that he would halt at al-Mash'ar al-Haram (the sacred site) as the Quraish used to do in the pre-Islamic period.
So Allah the Exalted commanded all people, including Quraysh, to depart from the place from which the people departed.
and seek the forgiveness of Allah
Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
And when you have completed your rites, remember Allah like your [previous] remembrance of your fathers or with [much] greater remembrance.
(9) O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew. (10) And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah often that you may succeed.
Then Allah the Exalted divided people into two categories:
Among them is he who says:
Our Lord, give us in this world
And among them is he who says:
