Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The meaning of his statement (peace and blessings be upon him):
And he was among the greatest of the Muslims in benefiting themوكان من أعظم المسلمين غناء عنهم
?

Answer:
It means: benefit. "Ghina'" means benefit. He killed many of the mushrikin (those who associate partners with Allah), and the people were impressed by his activity in fighting. It was in Allah's prior knowledge that he would kill himself—may Allah keep us safe from that. This is from the category of warning. If he was not a hypocrite, it is from the category of warning. But if he was a hypocrite, it came in some narrations that he was asked—this one or another—and he said: "I did not fight for your religion, but I fought to protect my people." So his hypocrisy became apparent. May Allah keep us safe from that.
