The Ruling on One Who Curses Allah the Exalted and One Who Curses the Messenger

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The book *Al-Qawl al-Mufid* by Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (may Allah preserve him) states: "The one who curses the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) has his repentance accepted, and he must be killed, unlike the one who curses Allah, whose repentance is accepted and who is not killed, because the right of Allah is less than the right of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Rather, because Allah has informed us of His forgiveness of His right when the servant repents, by saying that He forgives all sins. As for cursing the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), two matters are connected to it?"

Answer:
This is a matter of scholarly disagreement. One opinion is that the repentance of the one who curses is accepted if he regrets it and comes repentant and remorseful. The second opinion is that he is killed, whether he cursed the Messenger or Allah . The disagreement is well-known, and what is known among the scholars is that the repentance of the one who curses is not accepted; he is killed. The right of Allah is greater, but the intent of the one who said that cursing the Messenger is a matter is that it is the right of a created being; that is his intent.
Q: Is the hadd applied to him?
The Shaykh: His hadd is killing; that is his hadd. But if he comes to us repentant and remorseful before we are able to take him, the correct view is that his repentance is accepted, like the rest of the disbelievers who embraced Islam after cursing.
Q: Is he excused by ignorance?
The Shaykh: No, he is not ignorant of this. This is not something that even children are ignorant of. They do not ignore that cursing is an abomination. If you tell a child who curses his father or his brother... it is not good.
