The Ruling on One Who Curses the Religion and How to Deal with Him

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He asks a question and says: What is the ruling on cursing the religion? And is it permissible to deal with one who curses the religion? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Cursing the religion, cursing Islam, is major shirk (associating partners with Allah) and apostasy from Islam according to all scholars; there is no disagreement on this. They mentioned this in the chapter on the ruling of the apostate. One who curses Allah, or curses the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), or curses some of the messengers other than Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), such as cursing Noah or Hud, or Adam or others among the messengers and prophets, commits disbelief by the consensus of the Muslims.
Likewise, if one curses Islam, the religion of Islam, or mocks it, he is a disbeliever according to all scholars of knowledge; because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?"قُلْ أَبِاللَّهِ وَآيَاتِهِ وَرَسُولِهِ كُنتُمْ تَسْتَهْزِئُونَ ۝
[At-Tawbah 9:65]
Do not make excuses; you have become disbelievers after your faith [Surah al-Tawbah: 66], and because the essence of cursing the religion is hatred for it and denial of it. And Allah says, Glorified and Exalted is He:
That is because they disliked what Allah revealed, so He rendered worthless their deeds.ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَرِهُوا مَا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَالَهُمْ
[Surah Muhammad: 9].
So it is obligatory for the believer to be cautious. It is obligatory for every Muslim man and woman to be cautious, and to guard his tongue and protect his tongue from what leads him to apostasy from Islam. So cursing the religion, or mocking the religion, or mocking the Qur'an, or cursing the Qur'an, or cursing the Messenger, or cursing Allah, or cursing some of the other prophets, all of it is apostasy and disbelief after Islam. We seek refuge in Allah.
The scholars differed on whether he should be given the opportunity to repent or not.
Some of them said: He should be given the opportunity to repent. If he repents, otherwise he is killed and also punished. Even if he repents, he is punished for his ugly act by flogging, imprisonment, or the like.
And others said: He is not given the opportunity to repent, but is killed as a limit (hadd). He is killed as a disbeliever, and is not given the opportunity to repent, nor is he washed, nor is the funeral prayer performed for him, nor is he buried in the graves of the Muslims; because his crime is great, and his disbelief is great. And the closest opinion to me, and Allah knows best, is the opinion that he should be given the opportunity to repent; because it may occur out of ignorance, it may occur out of intense anger, it may occur out of provocation from some people. So that he is given the opportunity to repent, and his error is made clear to him, and his injustice to himself, and that he has committed a great crime and a great disbelief. If he repents, the killing is lifted from him, but there is no harm in his being disciplined. The one in authority, the prince, or the judge disciplines him for this by flogging, or imprisonment, or the like, along with reprimand, so that he does not return to such a thing. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good and do you good.
