Question:
Sister Salihah Muhammad Rizq Allah, from Libya, sent a message containing a collection of questions, asking about the ruling on one who insults the religion, may Allah protect us from that?
And she requests guidance and advice, may Allah reward you with good, Shaykh Abdulaziz.
Answer:
The ruling on one who insults the religion, according to the scholars, is that he is a disbeliever. So the one who insults Islam, or insults Allah, or insults the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) or disparages him and faults him and attacks him, or insults Paradise, or says: it is not real, or denies the Fire and says: it is not real, all of these are disbelievers according to the scholars by the consensus of the Muslims.
So the one who insults the Messenger, and abuses the Messenger, or says: he did not convey the message, or says: he is ignorant of some matters, he does not know everything, he is ignorant, or he has ignorance, or he is negligent in the right of Allah, or negligent in conveying the message, or similar to that of mockery, all of it is major shirk, and apostasy from Islam, we seek refuge in Allah, or he insults Allah, and disparages Allah, or says: He is ignorant, or says: He is unjust, or says: His law is deficient, or says: Islam is not correct, or that it is a religion of superstition, or that it is not permissible to adhere to it, or that it is not permissible to enter into it, or that all of that is not obligatory, all of it is major shirk, we ask Allah for safety.
And the summary is: that insulting Islam, or insulting Allah, or insulting the Messengers or disparaging them or attacking them or mocking them, all of it is major shirk according to all the scholars, we ask Allah for safety, it necessitates killing, it necessitates that the one in authority, the authority of the Muslims, take this deviant, and this one who disparages, and kill him for his apostasy from Islam.
As for if he repents, his repentance has details between the types of disbelief, and the one who insults Allah and His Messenger is not asked to repent according to a group of the scholars; due to the magnitude of his crime, we seek refuge in Allah, rather he is killed as a fixed punishment.
As for the other types of disbelief, like calling upon the dead and seeking aid from the dead and making vows for the dead and leaving the prayer, these are asked to repent, so if they repent, otherwise they are killed, we ask Allah for safety, yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
