The ruling on the claim that part of the middle path of the religion is committing some sins
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you: I convey to you, O Shaykh, that I love you for the sake of Allah, and I convey to you the greetings of my father. As for my question: Many people make a mistake in understanding that the religion is a middle path, and they say, "We pray, we fast, we perform all the obligatory duties, and we commit some sins, such as listening to songs and other minor sins." What is your opinion of this statement?
Answer:
First: May Allah love you as you have loved us for His sake, for loving one another for the sake of Allah is among the best of the means of drawing near to Him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih al-Bukhari 1423 And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said that Allah says on the Day of Resurrection: Sahih Muslim 2566 And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2624Sahih (Darussalam), and peace be upon your father as well.
As for the claim of some people that part of the middle path is engaging in sins; this is an error and ignorance, or it is boldness against Allah and rushing into what is forbidden. The middle path is not leaning toward negligence and deviation, or toward extremism and excess. No, the middle path is adhering to the truth and not adding to it or subtracting from it. Engaging in sins is deviation and negligence, not the middle path; it is a deviation toward the other extreme, which is negligence and falling short.
Therefore, it is obligatory to adhere to the truth and to be cautious of what Allah has forbidden, such as listening to songs, entertainment, backbiting, talebearing, and what Allah has forbidden in speech. Likewise, one must be cautious of what Allah has forbidden in actions. This is Islam, and this is the truth: that you adhere to the truth and stay away from the two extremes, the extreme of negligence and the extreme of excess. May Allah grant everyone success and guidance.

Seven people will be shaded by Allah under His shade on the day when there will be no shade except His. They are: (1) a just ruler; (2) a young man who has been brought up in the worship of Allah, (i.e. worship Allah (Alone) sincerely from his childhood), (3) a man whose heart is attached to the mosque (who offers the five compulsory congregational prayers in the mosque); (4) two persons who love each other only for Allah's sake and they meet and part in Allah's cause only; (5) a man who refuses the call of a charming woman of noble birth for an illegal sexual intercourse with her and says: I am afraid of Allah; (6) a person who practices charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given (i.e. nobody knows how much he has given in charity). (7) a person who remembers Allah in seclusion and his eyes get flooded with tears.
Where are those who have mutual love for My Glory's sake? Today I shall shelter them in My shadow when there is no other shadow but the shadow of Mine.
أين المتحابون بجلالي اليوم أظلهم في ظلي يوم لا ظل إلا ظليThere are three things for which whomever has them, then he has tasted the sweetness of faith: The one for whom Allah and His Messenger are more beloved than anything else; whoever loves someone and he does not love him except for the sake of Allah, and whoever hates to return to disbelief after Allah has saved him from it, just as he hates to be thrown into fire.
As for the claim of some people that part of the middle path is engaging in sins; this is an error and ignorance, or it is boldness against Allah and rushing into what is forbidden.
