The Ruling on Breaking the Fast in Voluntary Fasting

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If the fast is voluntary, is it permissible for the fasting person to break it for any minor reason, or is it not permissible except for important reasons? Please give us an example, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
If the fast is voluntary, he may break it; he may break it absolutely. However, it is better not to break it except for legitimate religious reasons, such as: extreme heat, such as: a guest who has arrived, such as: a group that he is obligated to attend, such as a wedding or other matter that compels them to do so; there is no harm in that. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the house of Aisha one day and said:
Do you have anything?هل عندكم شيء؟
They said: No. He said:
Then I am fasting.فإني إذًا صائم
Then he came on another day and said:
Do you have anything?هل عندكم شيء؟
They said: Yes. So they brought it to him, and he ate, and said:
I have become a fasting personلقد أصبحت صائمًا
So he ate—(peace and blessings be upon him). The matter is broad in this, but it is better for him to complete the fast if there is no clear reason; this is the better course. Yes.
