The ruling on praying behind one who practices sorcery
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He says: In our village, there is a man who has memorized the entire Noble Qur'an and leads the people in prayer, but he performs some acts of sorcery. He claims that they are only acts of love, meaning bringing two people together. Is it permissible to pray behind him? If not, should we leave him and go to another mosque? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
If it is known that he practices sorcery, his case must be referred to the court so that he is given the opportunity to repent, and so that the court rules according to what the pure Shari'ah requires. The correct view is also that he should not be given the opportunity to repent, but rather executed, and one should not pray behind him. The sorcerer is a disbeliever if the sorcery is established by the court, and the court is more knowledgeable about this. So refer his case to the court, do not pray behind him, and ask the officials in the Waqf (endowments) to appoint a replacement from among the people of good. It is not permissible for you to pray behind him, nor to leave him alone; rather, it is obligatory to refer him to the court so that they do what is required regarding the establishment of his sorcery and judge him according to what the Islamic ruling requires. We ask Allah for safety and well-being.
The presenter : May Allah accept it.
