The Ruling on Visiting Sorcerers and Magicians to Treat Sorcery

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A brother of mine was ill for a period of time, a very long period, and I took him to many hospitals, but he did not benefit from any of it. After that, they said that he had some sorcery, so I took him to a person who claims to treat the disease of sorcery. He treated him by strange methods according to their specific and well-known methods, and he was healed by the permission of Allah. My question is: Am I sinful for that?

Answer:
Yes, if it is known that he practices sorcery, or claims knowledge of the unseen, then you are sinful. So you must repent to Allah, turn back to Him, and not return to him. But if he practices recitation, and permissible verses, not by sorcery, not by serving the devils, and not by claiming knowledge of the unseen; then there is no harm.
As for the one who is known to claim knowledge of the unseen, and says: So-and-so has afflicted you, and such and such has happened to you, on such and such a day, and you gave such and such on such and such a day, all of this is evidence that he serves the devils, or he lies, claiming knowledge of the unseen and lying, or serving the devils. This person is not to be visited, nor asked.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who visits a diviner ('Arraf) and asks him about anything, his prayers extending to forty nights will not be accepted. من أتى عرافًا، فسأله عن شيء لم تقبل له صلاة أربعين يومًا
Sahih Muslim 2230
Narrated by Muslim in the Sahih, and in the other wording:
Whoever visits a diviner or a soothsayer and believes in what he says, he has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad: من أتى عرافًا، أو كاهنًا، فصدقه بما يقول فقد كفر بما أنزل على محمد
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 15:740
(peace and blessings be upon him), narrated by the people of the Sunan with a good chain.
And he also said - (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever practices sorcery, or has sorcery practiced on him, is not one of us, and whoever practices divination, or has divination practiced on him, is not one of us, and whoever practices soothsaying, or has soothsaying practiced on him, is not one of usليس منّا من سحر، أو سحر له، وليس منّا من تطير، أو تطير له، وليس منّا من تكهن، أو تكهن له
So it is not permissible for a Muslim to ask these people. The disease may be healed by many causes, and it may not be healed, so not every sick person is healed, and not every disease has a medicine that heals it. A medicine may be prescribed for him, but Allah has not decreed healing for him; because the wisdom is that the duration has ended, and the term has arrived, so medicines are conditional on the absence of the term, but if the term arrives, medicines do not benefit.
