Doubling the voluntary prayer at night and during the day

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Does the meaning of: "The night and day prayers are performed in pairs" imply that the four rak'ahs of the regular voluntary prayer before the midday prayer should be prayed as two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs?

Answer:
Yes, yes, it is prayed as two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs, at night and during the day, whether they are the regular voluntary prayers or not. This is the recommended practice (sunnah). However, if one prays the witr prayer at night in a continuous sequence, praying three rak'ahs all together, or five rak'ahs all together, or seven rak'ahs all together, there is no harm. But praying two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs, is better. This is based on his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying:
Prayer during the night should consist of pairs of rak'ahs, but if one of you fears the morning is near he should pray one rak'ah which will make his prayer an odd number for him.صلاة الليل مثنى مثنى، فإذا خشي الصبح صلى ركعة واحدة، توتر له ما قد صلى
Sunan Abi Dawud 1326Sahih (Al-Albani)
However, it is established that he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed witr with five rak'ahs all together, and with three rak'ahs all together, or with seven rak'ahs all together, in a continuous sequence on some occasions, and there is no harm in that. But the best practice is always to pray two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs; this is the best. Then he performs witr with one rak'ah. Yes.
