What is the ruling on keeping company with one who does not pray?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He says: If a man has a friend who does not pray, and his wife also does not pray, should that friendship continue? And is it permissible for him to invite them to his home as guests? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
If a man does not pray, it is not permissible to take him as a friend; rather, it is obligatory to take him as an enemy and to hate him until he repents. This is part of loyalty and disavowal, of enmity for the sake of Allah and hatred for the sake of Allah. So the neighbor or relative who does not pray; it is obligatory to hate him for the sake of Allah, and to boycott him until he repents and turns away from the invalid, or his case is referred to the competent authority so that he is called to repent. If he repents, well and good; otherwise, he is killed, if he is in an Islamic land that rules by the law of Allah. And it is not permissible to befriend him.
And so, if his wife does not pray; he must separate from her. It is not permissible for her to remain. A believer does not marry a woman who associates partners with Allah. One who abandons prayer is a disbeliever. We ask Allah for safety. And Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says:
they are not lawful [wives] for them, nor are they lawful [husbands] for themلا هُنَّ حِلٌّ لَهُمْ وَلا هُمْ يَحِلُّونَ لَهُنَّ
[Al-Mumtahanah:10], meaning: a disbeliever. And He says:
And do not marry polytheistic women until they believeوَلا تَنكِحُوا الْمُشْرِكَاتِ حَتَّى يُؤْمِنَّ
[Al-Baqarah:221]. So the one who abandons prayer is a disbeliever. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The covenant between us and them is prayer; so whoever abandons it has committed disbelief.” So the man who does not pray and the woman who does not pray, both are disbelievers. And if they deny the obligation, they become disbelievers by the consensus of the Muslims.
As for if the abandonment is due to laziness—negligence—then this is major shirk according to the correct opinion of the scholars. His companion must be called to repent. If he repents, well and good; otherwise, he is killed in the Sharia court. And it is obligatory for the husband to separate from her if she does not repent, and to seek a righteous wife.
And so, the wife; if her husband does not pray; she leaves, she distances herself from him, she goes to her family, she requests separation from him from the court. Her awliya (close friends of Allah) carry this out, because a disbelieving woman is not suitable under a Muslim, and because a Muslim woman is not suitable under a disbeliever. Allah says:
they are not lawful [wives] for them, nor are they lawful [husbands] for themلا هُنَّ حِلٌّ لَهُمْ وَلا هُمْ يَحِلُّونَ لَهُنَّ
[Al-Mumtahanah:10].
So it is obligatory for the believer not to marry except a Muslim woman who prays, and it is obligatory for the Muslim woman to distance herself from the husband who does not pray, and not to be content with him as a husband. And if he abandons prayer; she goes to her family’s house, and she requests separation from him. We ask Allah for safety and well-being. Yes.

The presenter : O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
