The ruling on the one who delivers a single Friday sermon

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The listener Muhammad Ahmad ibn Abd al-Hakim from Sudan sent a question, saying: It happened that the imam delivered a single sermon on Friday. He was a man who had prayed on behalf of the imam due to the imam’s absence, and he was advanced in age. After finishing his first sermon, he told the people, “Stand up for prayer.” So the people stood up and prayed. Then many people differed afterward: is the prayer valid or not? We wanted your eminence to provide us with information. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The prayer is not valid. He must go back, deliver the second sermon, and then repeat the prayer. It is necessary to have two sermons, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did, and they are a condition for the validity of the prayer. This is the most correct view. So this man must repeat the prayer, and his companions must repeat it. He and his companions must repeat the prayer as the midday prayer. And in the future, it is necessary to have two sermons before the prayer. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.

Question : So, they repeat that prayer, O Shaykh?

Answer : As the midday prayer. They repeat it as the midday prayer.

The presenter : They repeat it as the midday prayer.

The Shaykh : Yes. Four rak'ahs. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
