Is it permissible to perform the Friday prayer with a single sermon?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you. This is a resident in Jeddah who sent this question, asking: Is it permissible to perform the Friday prayer with a single sermon?

The Shaykh : The Friday prayer requires two sermons, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver two sermons for the Friday prayer, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the Friday sermon:
The best of the speech is embodied in the Book of Allah, and the best of the guidance is the guidance given by Muhammad أما بعد : فإن خير الحديث كتاب الله، وخير الهدي هدي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم
Sahih Muslim 867a
. If one were to limit it to a single sermon, it would not follow the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and their Friday prayer would not be valid.
Therefore, the Friday prayer requires two sermons. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver two sermons and separate them by sitting down. It is not sufficient for him to separate them merely by silence; rather, he must sit. Sitting between the two sermons is part of the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and is a confirmed recommended practice (sunnah). The separation between the two sermons is not achieved except by sitting.
